Red Faction Multiplayer Test

I've now played the single player demo and now the Multiplayer test. This game is crap. It's got that gimmick - you can smash through walls and stuff, but that's it. The characters look stupid - like cheap versions of the original Unreal multiplayer (not Unreal Tournament)... the graphics are just boring rocks and buildings that look like Unreal and/or quake but a little brighter. The weapons are lame - about the only thing the rocket launcher is good for is blowing up walls cuz you can't kill a person with one. At any given time there's about 12 people total playing in various online servers... and it's super laggy... but the lag doesn't effect the player - it just makes him harder to hit. It's weird. Anyway - this game is a waste. I'm sure someone will like it, but I'll have to pass on it and wait for something with more substance. I can say that I am really impressed with a few things in this game - like the blowing up walls and floors and stuff. I also like the way this game handles climbing. You can climb up chain link fences as easily as a ladder - everything is cilmbable pretty much... that is - if you could climb it in real live, you can probably climb it in the game. So it does have a few things going for it - perhaps the mod community will do something interesting with it - cuz as it is, it really sucks. But that's just my opinion - anyone else play this? Care to agree or disagree?

I had no significant problems with lag and there were plenty of jammed servers (much more than 12 people) when I was playing a couple months ago. I also think the multiplayer was great fun with solid weapons and some excellent maps. Perhaps you need to get the full game to adequately get a feel for it.

I imagine you're right... the single player experience of the full game has to have at least a bit more depth than the single player demo I played. And perhaps the multiplayer test is empty cuz everyone bought the game already. Still, they could've done alot more with this game. It suffers from Max Payne syndrome where they have a few good breakthrough technologies (bullet time and the creepy hallucination camera angles) but the game is too short and doesn't quite have enough depth. Max Payne was a pleasant experience for the few hours of play it gave me and it left me wanting more... I felt that went the game was over, it should've been just the first episode of at least 3. Red Faction I hear is also really short. This is another one where we'll have to see what the mod community can do.
