My analysis of the recent onslaught of XBox commercials.

Since the last game of the World series, i have been noticing the Xbox commercials on many networks. Anyway, I thought I would bring a couple to this crowd. These commercials are only designed to grab people's attention and cause them to go to www.xbox.com to learn about the XBox. Nothing more.

Here is the first:

It sucks to be a cloud

My intrepretation:

The 2 clouds are Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft thinks being a cloud sucks, therefore will change the way games are played.

Here is the second:

Escaping Reality

This one is quite obvious. Many XBox games will look just like real life.

Here is the Third:

Go Outside

Again, very obvious. No explanation needed.

There are other variations:

1. When you're a kid you want to play like an adult, when you're an adult you want to play like a kid. Time is screwing with you.

2. It's 10:00 P.M.......and I know where your kids are.

3. God created humans.....cause the dinosaur game sucked.

That last one is refering to Semus Blackley's short lived Dinasaur game called Trespasser. That is a big inside joke, though. But like I said, these type of commercials are used to peak intrest only.

I am waiting for the 11th when we will see gameplay commercials like this one for Halo:

I love this game!

Very Nice stuff. Anyway, that wraps up the commercials I have seen so far.

Does it bother anyone else that we usually see little gameplay footage in these types of commercials? I'm complaining about both the X-box and GC commercials I've seen. I really don't care how cool a concept you have, I wanna see some footage of these things in action.

Disappointing. I guess that's what broadband is for

That bugs me too. The XBox, Gamecube and even most of the PS2 commercials I've seen have little to no game footage.

draven-x, Did you read the last part of my post? That is the Halo Gameplay commercial that will appear on the 11th along with gameplay commercials of all the other launch games.

I heard Nintendo has already aired a LM commercial.

Where did you see Xbox commercials?? The tv stations in Canada are literally infested with Gamecubes (which seem to contain nothing but cubes, first one I saw had me wondering what sort of crap they were selling, then I found out they were selling crap), but I've yet to see one Xbox commercials.

Mainly on Comedy Central, because that is my favorite station.

They are also on Fox, UPN, WWF, ESPN and MTV according to Microsoft.

actually I was wondering when I would start to see the onslaught of XBox and Gamecube commercials then I realized I spend almost no time watching tv right now

i guess if they are not showing much gameplay then I am not missing much. i expect more gameplay after the launches.

You can download all the current ads at xbox.com now, but dang, I can't wait to hear the reaction when they start playing the Halo ad on tv. Great stuff, especially running over the elite with the Warthog ;p

I for one didn't find Trespasser to be that bad.. I think it's fun to explore that island

Anyways, I have a computer, so I have no need for any of these consoles. Yawn.

Nintendo [used] to only show game footage, but Nintendo is responding to other companies (SOny. Sega, MS) that use "gimicky" ads to draw attention. I remember a conversation with Peter Main about this at one time on IGN I beleive. Anyhow, Nintendo is just trying to regain market share, and I guess 1 tatic is to use the same methods as its competitors. One reason the PSX was deemed so"cool" was because of its ads, same with Sega.

Another example of Nintendo caving to competetion was the exlusion of the 2nd controller starting with the N64. Nintendo always "beleived", if you will, that the system should come ready to play fully, but with the intro of the Saturn and the PSX Nintendo had to resort to matching their competitors tatics.

Coming soon: Trespasser 2-Return of the Broken Rubber Arm

About the ads, I have been seeing them alot, which is good from an exposure point of view, but what about the casual gaming audience(which I beleive will make or break the Xbox)who have no idea what they are watching? Enough of this gimick advertising, I want to see gameplay, and more than just 2 seconds.
