Local Wal-mart to sell X-Box and Gamecube at Midnight

X-box will go on sale at midnight on the 14th, Gamecube at midnight on the 17th. I'd imagine that most 24hr Wal-marts will do this, and the others will sell them as soon as they open the next day.

Add another $100 since you'll want to buy at least one game for each.

Wow, you are a true gamer! I'll probably pick each of them up too, but probably in 5 years or so, when they're $30 a piece on ebay

Did Walmart have a midnight sale for Playstation2 last year?

How did it work? / How do you think the Gamecube midnight sale will work?

Where will people line up? (outside store, or at electronics department?)

Did they/Will they have a ticket/lottery type system?

Thanks!

Anyone know anything about the Walmart in Elkton, DE?

Our local ones did in AL. From what I've read, that's fairly standard.

Around here, they had people line up at the service department. People started getting there around 11 AM on the release day. Some stores gave out numbers, so you didn't have to stick around the stores all day. Some stores didn't. When midnight hit, you bought your console and games according to your ticket number or place in line. A few locations had security or police escorting people back to their cars, since it was so late.

I remember calling the 24 walmart near me (its actually not that near, its about 20-30 minutes away), but I asked them how they were distributing the PS2. They told me they were doing a raffle, if your number got called, you got to buy it. I then asked them how many people were there and the lady said there were tons of people. I think she was right because I could barely hear her on the phone as there was too much noise in the background so I scratched that off my list at the time.

They may do this again if there is a large group of people, umm...but this was in Michigan, don't know about Delaware, I think if you call them a few days before the launch their boss will have told them whats up.

Last year, when I bought my PS2 in Des Moines, IA , they handed out tickets. There were 30 systems, and about 100 people. They told us the number range that was handed out. The Manager drew a ticket. If ticket 100 was drawn, then 100-29 would get systems. You had to come up as your number was called, or you'd be skipped. My 2 friends and I had tickets 8, 9, and 11. The line formed behind #7, so we got ours. I gave my ticket to these cute girls who fell just short. My friends chided me for not getting the girls' phone number, but if I had, I wouldn't have met my girlfriend/fiancee-to-be.

Cool story.
Just a suggestion:
Maybe you should propose during the release of the XBOX. It's how you first met her (I'm assuming), therefore, it'll have that special sentimental value. Plus, not too many guys can say they did this.

He's saying if he had hooked up he would have never met his fiance.
But women never think that stuffs as cool as we do anyway. My GF got mad when I suggested we do it at the First Union Center during a Sixers game.

Nah, man. My girlfriend is the ultimate. She loves video games )I got her hooked on Samba de Amigo and Pop N' Music), DVDs, the Chicago Bears, and martial arts (while we were goofing around, she almost dislocated my shoulder. ) My G/F is the reason I'm scoring a GameCube... She has to play Rogue Leader 2.

I'll be proposing soon... I just have to find the right ring.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Well my local Walmart wont be selling them at midnight. The guy tells me they close at midnight. I said "One second after midnight and its the 18th right?".
He said "Nice try"
I go "No one second after midnight is the 18th"
He said "One second after midnight were closed"

So i was basically left with "Awwww come on!!!!!"

Well, living in Los Angeles gives me three options:

1) Go to the 24-hour Walmart in City of Industry -- nah, don't want to have to drive 45 minutes away;

2) Go to the 24-hour Walmart in Oxnard -- if I'm not willing to drive 45 minutes, why should I drive for 2 hours?

3) Sleep that night (right, like I'll be able to get quality sleep the night before X-day ) and wake up early to camp at 7:00am.

Option 3 sounds about right.

More info from my local Wal-mart

1. They confirmed that they are selling X-box and GC on midnight of the 12th and 17th respectively (well technically the 15th and 18th since it's after midnight. ).

2. It's first come first serve, no tickets, no lotteries. I asked what time she expected people to start showing up, and she said she knew some people that were showing up 9 a.m. , but she figured must people wouldn't show up until 10 p.m. or later, and that she would be surprised if they sold out that night. She expect them to last until at least the afternoon of the 18th.

3. She looked at, and showed, me an inventory sheet that says that they are getting 28 X-boxes and 60 Gamecubes. It looks like those of us trying to get a GC without a pre-order have less to worry about than those wanting an X-box.

My local Wal-mart says they're only getting 15 GameCubes... They previously said they would get 30, but now it's down to 15. (I don't know why). I was originally planning to try Wal-mart first, but now I'm probably going to try Best Buy or Toys R Us.

I know you meant to say 14th instead of '12th' for the XBOX.

Walmart will price match any advertised sale from a competitors ad. I wonder if they will honor Best Buys deal for $20 off on three games or assecories?
