I remeber a while ago. Someone said that it is better putting some sort of black velvet thing on the black widescreen bars when watching 2.35:1 DVD's this makes it more pleasant then looking at the black bars. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Much help appreicated. Thanks

Whether or not it's better is <i>completely</i> a point of view issue. I believe it's always done by people who view their sets in an entirely darkend room.

I'm fairly solidly in the rim light camp, so matting like this wouldn't make any sense.
