Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
I just want to say, this is hands down, the most fun I've had being a video plane jockey in a loooong time.
The graphics are downright amazing, and the game is challenging, but not frustratingly hard.
I absolutely love this game, and thanks to TRU, I paid a whopping $25 for it(sold DMC for $50 on eBay )
Best $25 I ever spent.

are you using the ps2 controller or a flight stick?
I played ace combat 2 and loved it, then I found a flight stick with a seperate throttle controller on clearance sale for about 10 bucks and played it again. The game was completely transformed by playing it with a flight stick controller. I suggest you try it out if you already like the game. It will be so much better.

THe clips i saw of thsi game didn't make it look too exceptional, but everyone on all these boards are raving about how great it is.... I took a risk on topgun, and i hope it turns out to be a good call.

I'm not hearing a lot of "big things" from Top Gun..most of the boards(as you said)_ are raving about how damn_awesome AC04 is however.

Can you actually fly around, or does it keep you on a certain path like an arcade game? I'd like to play a mission-oriented flight sim on my PS2, but don't know of a good one.

You have free reign of where you want to go. But there are targets and enemy planes that are to be destroyed. Basically, you can go anywhere you want on the map, as long as you complete your goals.
