That review looks great! It is a must own game for the PS2 and the XBox. I will pick it up when it gets released for the XBox in May.

From IGN:

http://xbox.ign.com/news/31863.html

Last I heard, it was scheduled for a 05/01/02 release date.

The details of the XBox version will probably come after the PS2 version has had at least a month of selling time.

It looks great -- I'll definitely be picking it up by the holiday season. The PS2 and its killer apps are gonna keep me very busy this winter!

So many good games coming out for the PS2 (finally!), and this looks to be one of them. The movies I've seen look pretty impressive... I love games that can capture that feeling of SPEED. I picked up three with the TRU deal, and already Half.com-ed two of them for ~$85 total, after Half.com takes its commission. GTA3 for $15? I can deal with that.

GTA3 good!

Grand Theft Auto 3!!!

Best game EVER!!!

I'm only a couple of hours into it, but I can already tell that this is the game that will be talked about for years as one of PS2's best games.

It's just so much fun and so kick-ass.

Here's a review that is pretty much in line with what I think so far:

I've been looking forward to GTA3 for months. I do wish they had ripped off Driver and put in some mini-games, most notably "survival mode", but oh well.

some wild things you can do in GTA3:

In the subway I hit this girl and some afro-wearing dude says that that's no way to treat a lady and starts hitting me. So I grab a bat off of some nearby thug and whack him dead. As I leave the subway, paramedics are rushing by to try to save him and I also hear the sirens of police on their way to arrest me. So I go to the paramedic's ambulence, throw out the driver and car-jack the ambulance and speed off in it before the police arrive - 'tho I end up driving off a bridge and killing myself.

This doesn't always work, but if you correctly approach hookers, they'll get into your car and then if you drive into a secluded alley and park you'll see your car a-rockin'. If you keep goin' at it you can fill up your health! But for each 2 points of healt you gain, you'll lose a dollar - but it's worth it.

This is all just the tip of the iceburg from this incredibly deep and fun game.

Actually, I picked it up last night at Software etc. and only had enough time to play a couple hours before I went to sleep.

I'm at work right now and can't think of anything else but getting back and playing more! It's that good.

I got mine today too, and it is the most fun game I have ever played! The total lack of rules, and the endless ways to cause chaos is fantastic! I've never so much enjoyed stealing a cops car, running him over, then stealing his shotgun and blowing away all th other cops that approach you. This game just kicks ass.

Oh yea, there are gay construction men that say things like "It's fun to stay at the YMCA" or "Come on lover boy" when you bump into them! Then you can bash their heads in!

GTA3 is my new favorite PS2 game. I finally stopped playing it after 6 hours straight. I know, I have problems. I kept telling myself, 'just one more time.'

A couple hours later, I still can't turn the damn thing off. This game is highly addicting, to me anyways. But I recommend it for everyone, of all ages. Its a nice wholesome game that the entire family can enjoy.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as virtual gay bashing.

Deja vu....

Does anyone notice any similarities with this city, and the game to some extent, with Midnight Club, another Rockstar game? There are parts of the city the seem lifted right from the earlier game! Also the races where you have to make it from checkpoint to checkpoint are very similar...still a great game, just an interesting observation!

That's because GTA3 uses a modified version of the same game engine as Midnight Club.

BTW, try stealing the bus. It is so much fun to smash into cops with the bus.

I must play this game NOW. Ship it Amazon, ship it today.
For those of you with the game, can you give me some idea of how the graphics are. That was the one area of the IGN reviews where they cited some problems. Does it still look pretty good? (It must be a damn sight better than GTA1 anyways).

I picked this game up today at Babbages, believe me this game lives up to the hype --- it exceeds the hype. This game is the most fun you will have playing a video game. The city is enormous, and there are still sections to be unlocked. This game has endless replay value, I will be playing this until GTA 4 comes out. Run to your local store and buy this game.
