Sony has denied the price reduction here in the states claiming blah blah blah blah blah, and that there system will do fine against the competitors.

Meanwhile, many magazines and insiders still beleive that a reduction is in the future, they just can't guess when.

So for right now and up through new year's i would have to say: NO, No price reduction.

did you contact sony- they may have a repair location near you. or if it is toast anyway maybe it could be worked on and repaired by someone who knows computers.

will the tray just not open?? what is it doing?

cheapest I can find for repairs is 70 bucks plus parts and if it needs a new cd drive... thats an extra 150 w/ lens or 90 without the lens. I've decided to just ebay it. broken PS2's are pulling in ~175 bucks. I'll just use that towards the gamecube and xbox then get a ps2 later on.

yes they will...

the ps2 will undoubtedly go down in price. the question is, when? Sony's best bet would be to lower the price Mid-November to compete with a similarly priced xbox(299) and a 100 less gamecube. my guess is they will lower by $50. price reductions have already taken place in japan and the uk.

I hope not. As soon as I can get the box for mine out of my parent's attic, I'm eBay'ing mine. I don't have time to play it (or any other console), so it's just sitting there, losing value. I'll buy Christmas gifts with the money from it.
