Hey all. I have a couple of things I need help with

1.Colorstream Outputs? - I have a Toshiba TW40H80 and it has Colorstream outputs. Are these for high grade component cables or HDTV?

2.Widescreen?-My tv is a widescreen. I have the DVD player(Sony 360) set to widescreen, yet I still get black bars at top and bottom, although the picture is still incredible(anamorphic rules). Is this normal?

I have no idea on your first question.

On your second question the answer is yes depending on the aspect ratio of the film in question.

You can use your componet cables for HDTV or your DVD player or both. You have to use your componet cables for HDTV and a Progressive Scan DVD player. Like Deadman31 said, 2:35:1 films & all non-anamorphic DVDs will give you black bars on top and bottom. :)

"Colorstream" is Toshibaspeak for "component video."
I do not think it encompasses progressive scan.

I don't think the TW40H80 has prog-scan capabilities.

I don't know why your TV would have component outputs.

Is your player set to 4:3 Wide or to 16:9 mode? If its 4:3 this could explain why you are still seeing black bars.

Unless a film is shot at around 1.77:1 to 1.85:1 aspect ration you will get bars regardless on your widescreen set.

Digit is correct about the colorstream outputs. They are nothing more than component video. Unless your player is progresive scan, it will not output a progressive image.

Thanks guys. My DVD player is set to Widescreen. I think I understand the whole aspect ratio thing. Gladiator(which is something like 2:35-1) has black bars, but Men in Black(1.77-1 I believe)doesnt
