Proof that Nintendo is not marketing the GC just to Kids

Proof that Nintendo is not marketing the GC just to Kids
They are beggining an ad campaign that will feature an ad in Rolling Stone. I'm sure lots of kids read RS This, coupled with the Resident Evil announcement should end all this "Nintendo's only for kids" crap. Sure they have cartoonish characters, but that doesn't mean the gameplay is dumbed down for kids. Nintendo's core market will always be younger than Sony/Microsoft, but that doesn't mean that older gamers can't enjoy Mario, Zelda etc, or that there will be no "mature" games on the GC.
Can we please quit all the system bashing. No more Nintendo is for kids, no more X-box "blue screen of death" crap, and no more "sony has no good games" comments. Lets just accept the fact that all three systems look damn promising. There is going to be a tremendous system war and lots of competition. As I have said repeatedly this is a great thing, as more competion means more A+ games for us.
Below is the article on Nintendo's marketing as well as a picture of the ad.

Nintendo targets the mass market with high-profile advertisements for GCN in Rolling Stone Magazine.

The GameCube is just out in Japan but that hasn't stopped Nintendo of America from kicking off mainstream advertising for the console in the US. The subsidiary recently placed a high-profile spot for its next-generation system in popular magazine Rolling Stone.
The one-page ad features a picture of a nude person clinging to a GameCube controller and suspended underwater in a cube-like tank. The lower right of the page highlights a photo of a GCN with the tagline "Born to Play" stamped proudly next to it. See a scan of the placement below:
Definitely a weird spot to be sure, but it's also much more mysterious and hip than Nintendo's usual colorful ads. It's also quite clear that the placements in Rolling Stone are being aimed at a different demographic than the Nintendo norm.

I plan on buying the Gamecube the day it comes out...or preordering...or whatever.
I will wait and see as far as the x-box goes, and the PS2 really doesn't interest me.
My dreamcast is holding me over for awhile.

This console thing always goes on and I agree its pointless. The software is all that matters and each console has software that is going to being liked by someone. Gamecube is looking promising and I'll get one soon and I'm way beyond the kiddie age. Actually, the PS2 also has a lot of software coming out that I want so I'm going to have to figure a way to get both in my budget. One system will have to wait a few months, but I will decide in November.

Sorry, but that ad is retarded. Would've been cooler if Mark Hamill was in that cube.

On MNET (a french show concerning video gaming), they had an Xbox with 3 games, Luigi's Mansion, some water racing type game and a Donkey Kong type ball game... and the guy who was presenting it wasn't too happy and did in fact say Nintendo was catering to kids and was only playing the water type game as the other 2 were much too childish for him.
