I have a sony Sony KP-53HS10 53" hdtv ready tv and a Sony dvp-s360 dvd player..now heres my dilema..

I can get a Sony reference 7700 dvd player with no progressive scan for a really good deal ($350 US) 8 months old with warranty off my friend

Or

Pick up a new progressive scan DVD player....will i notice much difference on my tv?

the sony reference dvd 7700 is a super unit and was very expensive new...

any opinions?

The 7700 is an outstanding player but to get the best picture on your TV you may be better off with a progressive scan player.

I owned the 7700 (paid approx $660 about 1 year ago). When I purchased a new Sony 16x9 HDTV a few months back the picture I was getting with the 7700 didn't seem clear/sharp enough. I purchased the Sony 700 to compare, and even though the 700 only cost me around $300, the progressive scan picture it was putting out was superior to the picture the 7700 was giving me. Again, this was just my own opinion (nothing scientific, just my two eyes ;) ).

I ended up selling the 7700 on eBay to more than cover what I paid for the 700 so it worked out OK for me in the long run.
Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Thanks for the reply man
I was thinking the same thing
the 7700 seems like a great player but its almost 2 years older technology wise compared to the progressive sony

I'll check it out
