I just got a call from Toys R Us. I had my name on the list for the game cube and X box and they said they are doing bundles in the store just like the web site. This sucks just thought I would share. :(

this has been pretty common knowledge, I do believe. It sucks for customers, but for retailers, it's often the only way to make a profit.

There is always Walmart and Target. Actually the bundles aren't too bad as long as you don't get stuck with an overpriced warranty or have to buy three games. The bundles at Outpost.com were a great deal, but they have already run out.

It doesn't suck for me. I was planning to buy 3 games and a controller at launch anyway. I will probably end up taking back 2 of those games before the 7 day return policy at EB is up and get 2 others. I don't mind paying the price of the bundle if I can return any of the games that suck.

I saw a post about the Toys R Us website did not know it was the real stores as well. Oh well it sucks anyway. :( I did get my PS2 in a bundle from Wal Mart.com last year but it was cheaper than seperate. I just think it is crappy they only sell them like that.

Really? When I called up the Toys R us in my town they didn't know.

As far as I know there are still three stores, On-Line and Real that are still selling xboxes, bundles or not. Funcoland didn't really have a clue. sigh..

Target, Circuit City and Walmart are all on a first come first serve basis.

Just to clarify when the guy called he said that the bundle was for pre orders but they may sell some units only but those would be first come first serve. And this was the store in Austin so it could be different elsewhere.

Anyone know anything about Wal-Mart? I was there a couple of weeks ago, and they siad they weren't giving pre-orders because they didn't know how many they'd be getting. Is it like this everywhere, or have they recently changed??

Yeah I called up like everyone in town.

Gamecrazy is the best deal, no additional fees, what you pay for is what you get, I just don't have a gamecrazy near me.

Walmart-First Come First Serve
Target-First Come First Serve
Circuit City-First Come First Serve
Funcoland-Reservation, but don't know how many they will get, so there taking names down.
Software etc-Sold Out
KBtoys-Bundles but you pay more then you should and you have to buy more then what you may want
ToysRus-??? They didn't have a clue.

Gamespot interviews Ed Fries of Microsoft:

GS: Right now, several specialty retailers are taking preorders for Xbox bundles only, some that run in the range of several hundred dollars. Will consumers be able to walk into a store on November 8, or soon after launch, and pick up a console for its $299 retail price?

EF: We have been really careful to restrict the number of presell units. We have been discouraging all the retailers from preselling a large percentage of their units. So, that is actually one reason you see a lot of them bundling, because it is only a part of what they can sell. So, they are saying, "OK, for this part we want to bundle a lot of value into the product, because we know we are going to have these other ones we are going to sell off the shelf." More than half the inventory available at launch will be just to buy [at the retail price]. We think that is really important
