what's the best out there and why? I am looking for one that is 32-42" in size and under 7k.

The new 42" Panasonic has gotten excellent reviews and is under your price limit. Check out the plasma section in the www.avsforum.com for the best places to buy and how best to set it up.

I don't think you can buy a Plasma that IS HDTV for that price. There are several that are that price that are HDTV READY, but you would adding another $2-3 thou for the HD receiver and such.

The new Pannie 42" plasma can be purchased for around $6K, including shipping and the table top stand. It's HDTV ready. A HDTV Digital Receiver can be had for less than $1000.

He can purchase the whole kit for his $7K. If he holds off on buying a HDTV decoder for now while waiting for the technology to settle down, he's at $6K.

That's cool. I wasn't aware that a Plasma was out for under $8000 mrsp. Also, wasn't aware that HD receivers were that low either. Good to know.
