Coen bros' first film. great neo-noir. I think it is essential-viewing and probably their most serious film. I haven't seen it since I sold off my vhs collection when I bought my dvd player, and I missed the theatrical release of this director's cut which is coming out on dvd. I've read that the director's cut is a shorter version of the original film. I've only seen the film on vhs, and have read that the at least the ending credit song was changed from the theatrical version because of rights issues....
anyone know what song is on the dvd, or anymore info regarding the songs in the film?

From imdb:

In the original theatrical version, as well as the version shown on TV, the Four Tops song "It's the Same Old Song" is played on the jukebox and over the end credits. In the video version it is "I'm a Believer" by Neil Diamond.

When Blood Simple was first released, two quotes appeared over black, before the opening credits. One was from Dashiell Hammet explaining what Blood Simple meant and the second was from Alfred Hitchcock about how difficult it really would be to kill a man.
