MrSwap.com is no more...
When MrSwap's website went down for a few days a couple weeks ago, I thought they might be nearing the end.
They were great back when they gave 3 or 5 points for completed swaps, when you could basically swap for an older CD for, like, 3 points and then get those points back into your account for another CD. In other words, when you could get something for nothing.
Unsurprisingly, this business model apparently does not work.
The prices (dollars or points) people wanted for DVDs, though, were ridiculous.
Wonder when Switchouse is gonna bite the dust?
Anyhoo, here's the e-mail I received. As with Swapit.com's recent demise, people with points will lose 'em. At least if you had cash credit, you'll get that back.

Dear MrSwap Member,
The MrSwap.com service will be suspended as of 12:00 noon (Pacific Time)
Monday July 30, 2001. While we are continuing to pursue opportunities with
other companies to take over MrSwap, in all likelihood, this will be the end
of the service. The reason for this is simple. The company was unable to
achieve profitability before our financing ran out.
What does this mean for your account?
-------------------------------------
Any cash or dollar credit balances in your account will be refunded to you,
by check, within the next few weeks. After Monday at 12:00 noon your
account will not be available. In our barter economy, the company via
various promotions introduced all SwapPoints in the system. In using these
SwapPoints some members received more items than they gave away, and some
members gave away more than they received, but the trade of items nets out
even. As per the User Agreement and Terms of Service there is no guarantee
that there will be available products to be exchanged for SwapPoints in your
account.
Final Swaps
-----------
We will continue to process accepted swaps through Monday at noon. If your
swap request is accepted by that time, the mailer will be sent. If you
receive a swap request during this time, please be aware that you will NOT
receive your SwapPoints in time to use them for another swap. Accepting a
swap request for SwapPoints this week means that you are willing to send
your items to help out another member, while accepting nothing in return.
You are under no obligation to accept these swap requests.
I would like to thank you for your patronage and support of MrSwap.com.
Sincerely,
Patrick Ford
President
MrSwap.com, Inc.
