DVD player fades to "video 1" screen

I just picked up a jvc dvd player very cheap. When I have it hooked up to my sony receiver and tv when the screen goes black the video 1 screen flashes on until something is sent to the screen. I have it hooked up via SVideo cable, when it is hooked up with composite cables it plays fine. My ps2 also does the same thing when its hooked up through Svideo. Yet I have another sony dvd player that works fine so it can't be the svideo cable. Anyone have a solution?

It could be that your TV requires some sort of a signal to let it know that it has something connected. Maybe the Sony DVD player puts someting out over the cable even if nothing is playing and the other 2 units don't.

Just a guess as I have never heard this problem before.

Your TV will need to be set to a certain channel to pick up the s-vid signal. Check the label on the S-vid port, should give you a channel number or else flick thru all the available channels on your TV.
