This one has one of the best documentaries about the making of a film on a dvd I've seen yet. Definite purchase for the film itself.

Can anyone who has seen both the DVD from the original set and the new release comment on any improvements to the transfer? I thought, along w/ Lolita, that Dr. Strangelove were the only two half-way decent transfers in the original.

As I understand it, the Strangelove transfers in the old set and the new set are the same - all that was added for the new set are the supplements (and the superior cover art). I agree that it's a very good transfer.

If you're not buying the whole collection, I'd recommend that you get Columbia Tristar's version (the new one, of course), which is exactly the same as Warner's new version (including the cool original artwork on the cover) except that it's in a KEEPCASE instead of Warner's dreaded snapper.

it is definitely worth owning. i actually have a copy of the new special edition to sell (in the warner snapper...however it still features the original poster art on the cover). i'll sell it for $17 shipped. if anyone is interested let me know on here and give me a way to contact you. thanks.
