The DVD by which all music DVDs shall be judged. Period. End of story. Buy it yesterday.

Only complaint... TV edits.

So they edited out any obscenities? Is this true? I thought Criterion would keep it real, what was their motivation for the edits?

The videos were edited for MTV. Criterion stuck to the TV edits. Sucks, but that's the way they were shown on TV and that's the way they are presented on the DVD.

Seriously... Buy this set... 40+ re-mixes, something like 100 alternate angles and multiple commentary tracks all switchable "on the fly". Phat 5.1 audio. It's the chit.

Quality Product

The amount of work and care that into this DVD more than makes up for a couple of songs that are missing a few swear words. This is how the videos aired however it seems the remixes maybe shouldn't be censored but what the hay.
If you ever enjoyed the BB musically buy this
subtitled lyrics are great
real only complaint is the commentary love the boys but it seems pretty slipshod.
Peace

This dvd is simply awesome. If you like the Beasties get it right away. You can play with this disc for days and still not get bored. I put on it on quite a bit in teh background just when I am doing other stuff in the house. The number of remixes, alternative angles and everything is amazing. Its the only criterion I own (not really into them), but its one of my 10 most played dvds for sure.

I don't think this is 100% accurate. I think you select either commentaries or music from the main menu, then you can select different audio tracks on the fly.

From TheDigitalBits :

Each disc has 9 videos split over two layers. You can watch the videos one at a time or all the way through. The videos are done up with full-on Dolby Digital 5.1 and/or Dolby Digital 2.0. You can also watch the videos with either audio commentary from the Boys or by the directors. Then, when you get done watching the videos, you can go to another area on the menu screen that sends you to the same videos with supplements. Now, keep in mind that these aren't the same exact videos you just watched and listened to. These are the videos presented with alternate angle features and remixes so you can basically thumb around and create your own version of the video. It's incredibly cool and, for Beastie fans, this is going to be the ultimate item to have.

evenswr - That is correct. Angles and re-mixes are available on the fly when you select that option. Commentary tracks are available on the fly when you select that option. My point being... There's a chit pot of available features at your fingertips.

Okay - bought it - watched it - watched it again - watched it yet again - incredible. I don't think I'll ever get bored with this one.

This is my first Criterion, now I know what all the talk is about.

Thanks for the advice.

Anyone else notice that the 5.1 mixes
seem to be pretty whack on this set?

Seems like they just added a bunch
of reverb, and the center channel
does not seem to be active at all.

Great disc otherwise, but has anyone
else noticed this?

It would have been nice if the 5.1 mix had been a little more imaginative. It ends up being much cooler to using my reciever's fake surround modes on the 2.0 track. Otherwise the disc is the model of what can be done with DVD.

I've noticed it, too. Just bought a surround system, and the Beasties DVD was one of the ones I wanted to test the system out with. What a mistake!

Still, all in all it's a great set.

Thanks for verifying, I wanted to make
sure it wasn't just a problem with my copy

I agree it is a great set, awesome in fact!

The '5.1' mix is an an anomaly though.
I wonder what the story behind that is?
Someone must have screwed up big time...

The best video on this disc has to be "three mcs and one dj." It is an excellent dvd all-around. Many different remixes for each song and angles to boot. I don't care about the angles too much, but the remixes are excellent. One video that I wish they had was the negotiation limerick file. Alive was also an excellent video with some very good remixes. The sound is incredible. Without a doubt, probably the best audio or music video related dvd out there. With the exception of blue man group, but this has a lot more depth to it. The video is great. A couple of pixel related problems on the "three mcs and one dj" video.

Great dvd pne disappointment

wassup with them leaving off Fight for your Right (to party)
and She's on it?
Fight for your Right was one of the defining videos of the early days at MTV and their first breakthrough song from licensed to Ill. really disappointed to not get these on the DVD.

(still a great DVD, but is there some licensing issue why these got left off?)

The 5.1 mix is kinda strange- lots of bass and basicly echo in the surrounds.

But all the remixes are great-

does anyone know of a good way to rip the remixes off the DVD onto a computer to put it onto a CD-R?
