Inspired by this thread (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=119719), I'd like to know the ratio of the MSRP of your speakers to the MSRP of your receiver (or amp/pre-amp/processor combo). A list of components by type and # of speakers would probably be helpful.
The ratio of speaker MSRP to Amp/pre/processor = 1.14/1. In other words, my 5 speakers retailed for just slightly more than my preamp and amps combined.

The ratio of speakers to pro/amp is....aww crap, I knew I should have taken that advanced math class.

My speaker/receiver cost ratio is 4.4/1. Does this mean I need a better receiver? My set up is not nearly as nice as DVD_O_Rama's (I spent approx $2200 on my speakers and $500 for my receiver).

I suspect my $$ratio is almost 1/1, because I recently picked up a new receiver, and then had to get some new speakers to go with it - now at eight speakers.

I'm a cheapskate with about a 1:1 ratio. Onkyo 595 for $389 and Energy Take 5 speakers with Sony SAW-M40 sub for about $450. One advantage of a small HT room is that more powerful gear is redundant so I can save bucks going for cheaper, yet still decent quality, components.

Cheap Sony Receiver $320.
Good speakers JBL S310, N24, SCenter total $900
So I have a receiver:speakers of 1:3
Soon to be 1:4 once I get a Sub.

Well, let's see. I spent about $2200 for my
speakers and about $600 for my Denon 2700.
That's a 3.666/1 ratio. I've been meaning to
upgrade my receiver to a Denon 3801 but
money's a little tight right now.
