I have a Sony mini-system with 5 speakers that is hooked up to my computer. I want to make my rear speakers louder. Is there some sort of inexpensive amp or pre-amp (don't really know the difference) type thingie that I can use to do this. It's only a $275 system, so obviously I'm looking for something very cheap. If Radio Shack has something, that would be ideal since there's one around the corner.
Thanks.

I would go into the Radio shack and ask. Mind you the wattage on rear speakers is not that great, specifically for the cheaper systems. Remember that you can put more AMPS into a speaker than it can handle and be okay - you just don't want to do the opposite because then the speakers are straining. I would be that your rear speakers are probably 20 watt (maybe less). I use to have an old shelf system that accepted input from an outside source. I routed the source to it (used it as an AMP) and outputed to the rears. It worked pretty well. Good luck in your search!
