I've heard good and bad things about this and unfortunately it is no where to be rented. Couls anyone give me a heads up? I'm a big Jude Law fan so that's one in the plus column already.

I think the original poster was looking for a review of the film, not the disc, in which case...rent it first. I personally hated this movie. Then again, it is a David Cronenberg movie and he has a tendency to appeal to certain people and all his films are hit or miss, along the same lines as David Lynch. Again, I personally did not like the film, and would definately RENT it first.

I'm glad that I was not the only one whom thought that this was a bad movie. I have seen others who have liked it enormously. And my review is not to say that you won't but you will not get a thumbs up from me. Cronnenberg, I just don't get this guy. Sexually resembling main objects in this movie every chance he gets. Horribly dumb character's names. Stupidity displayed through his main characters. And worst of all the only emotional response I got was frustration. Frustration of, Where is the plot?

I'll suggest a rental also.

I must also give it a "Rent It" response. It has a very promising premise, but really does let you down a little. It was somewhat predictable, yet did provide a little escapism while watching it.

I lent my copy to a buddy of mine and his response was: "Boy, that movie was weird".

The only real similarites between the 2 are that they came out the same year and both deal with virtual reality. I like The Matrix, but I love eXistenZ, and everyone has there preference. It depends if you like action films or subtle scifi more. eXistenZ is my favorite Cronenberg film after Dead Ringers. If you plan to buy, make sure you buy the Canadian version. There are many past threads on eXistenZ, so if you do a search, you'll turn up many reviews and opinions.
