Any word on the quality of the transfer of the DVD?

The print is in good condition with a fair number of specks and scratches, but there is also a fair amount of grain. The grain is not too distractingly obvious on daylight scenes, but on dark, low lit scenes (like the opening scene), it is glaringly bad, and takes on an unintentional raw, unprocessed documentary feel. The colors, though, are in good shape (not as faded as Chloe in the Afternoon or Claire's Knee for instance).

Quality wise, I'd rate it below New Yorker Video's release of Maborosi (but above the aforementioned early Fox Lorber Rohmer DVDs).

Thanks redshift. However, I didn't think highly of the Maborosi transfer, and to hear that Pixote's below that quality really makes me rethink of getting this. Sigh - I'll still probably end up getting it though, since I really liked the film.

DVD Smurf

I just got it after many hesitations, but I am very disappointed with the transfer and I thought the OAR was 1.85:1. However, this is a pan and scan version from New Yorker Film (there is no indication on what OAR the film is on the cover.). I will return this tomorrow and say that I thought it had the OAR, but it was a pan and scan which I am certainly not interested in. Anyway, I hope another version will be released of this great film.

The OAR is indeed 1.85:1.

And unfortunately, there won't be a new version

I really, really hate New Yorker after this utterly shameful release.
