According to FGN Online (http://www.fgnonline.com/nintendo/news/18989.html): Game Boy Advance has sold half a million units during its first week on the market, making it America's fastest selling system ever.
Nice! I can't wait to add Street Fighter, Final Fight, and Mario Kart to my GROWING list of GBA games! :D

I personally don't get the appeal of GBA, or Game Boy at all for that matter. Does anyone over the age of 12 actually play these things???
The thought of playing a handheld has no appeal to me what so ever. The little screen and simple controls. No thanks.

i'm 21...and i can't put the thing down. Its great for anywhere you'd be bored...now your not. I had to sit at the laundrymat yesterday, for like 2 hours...no biggie...just played castlevannia for the whole time... Its fun, its the games you remember for nes and snes, and its tiny... Heard there's a MP3 player on the way, as well as a "personal Assistant" cart as well...finally being obsessed with video games has paid off...

I never understood the appeal of handhelds either, but when I started doing articles and stuff for http://www.gaminginfinity.com for the last month or so, I have caught the fever. I think it is the appeal of a new Castlevania, and F-Zero. I really want a GBA now, unfortunately I can't afford it, and I can't find one either.

I agree and disagree. Tony Hawk 2 really suffers on the GBA from bad controls. Its great for a handheld game, but sucks in comparison to the PSX version. Castlevania on the other hand is just as good as the PSX version of Symphony of the Night. The screen is smaller, but this game is just as good and just as much fun as the console version. Handheld games are not for everyone, but games like Castlevania, Chu Chu Rocket and Mario Advance are just as good as their console counterparts. I'm 29 and I have been playing my GBA for several hours a day. I have always liked handhelds though.

I bet the game cube will sell a crap load as well. I wonder if it will top the GBA ?

I have to disagree that Tony Hawk is no good on the GBA. The controls may be dumbed down a little bit, but that certainly has its pros too. I was quick to pick up the game with the new control system and I think I might even enjoy it more than the PSX (or DC) version.
It also has ultra smooth graphics and a real 3d engine going for it. I think its a great game and an awesome port (of sorts).

I'm 28 and I LOVE GBA! I'm mostly into the classic arcade games, so Namco Museum was my first game. Those are dead-on replicas of the games (with the exception of the up/down scrolling of Ms. Pac-Man and Dig Dug). I would have absolutely KILLED to have an exact replica of Pac-Man as a child... :)
Plus, I love portable technology... Nice to have for trips.

I bought Tony Hawk for the GBA and didn't like it. I'll still with the PSX version. I took it back and got Castlevania... I'm glad I did!!!!

I bought the original gameboy the first week it was released in the states. I loved it for a while, but grew tired of the poor resolution and lack of backlighting.
For a decade I've been waiting for a drastically better handheld. Now that I've examined the GBA, I have to say: this ain't it.
I'd probably enjoy the games. Who knows, I still might get one eventually. But damn, they could've done soooo much better. This is lame tech. *sigh*

That was my first game as well but I was thinking one of the table top versions of Ms. Pac-Man did scroll like that. Oh well I spent like 2 hours playing Dig Dug. :)

I don't have a GBA so I can't really say, but couldn't they have turned the screen sideways for Ms. Pac-Man and Dig-Dug so as to get the proper aspect ratio? Would the GBA be playable for at least Ms. Pac-Man if you played it rotated 90 degrees?

What's the appeal? Great games, what else. The GBA has been out a week, and already has a better line-up than the PS2 with a ton of great games still on the way.

Is anyone else out there totally put off by how tiny the buttons and the d-pad are? I have large hands, but they aren't freakish or anything, and when I picked up a GBA that was on display at a store, I could hardly hold it without completely blocking the screen with my hands. Plus, trying to use the d-pad and the A/B buttons with my thumbs was like trying to use a watch calculator with my toes! It seems like the d-pad is half the size of the 'old' GB d-pad. Don't even get me started on how cheesy the shoulder buttons are... top it off with a tiny screen that really doesn't seem any better than the 1st-gen color handhelds (Lynx, etc) and I say Nintendo blew it... though I am glad that it is a success because it keeps Nintendo strong in the USA and I want to see the GC do well.

well i never really got into the original Gameboy, but after 5 years of these 3D nice-eye-candy-but-POS-gameplay mainstream titles. Besides mario 64, Zelda, Rayman and MGS all 3D games are crap IMO.
Castlevania is actually a challenge (because of good game design, not a crappy camera/hit detection), unlike the games which have been released in the past half decade.
So basically, i had to get the GBA just to play some REAL games again.
