After reading several reviews on Amazon about the Game Shark , it basically sucks.

Is this the impression of others?

The Xploder is apparently better. Again is this the case? If so how easy/difficult is it to download the latest codes for this device?

The price for the Xploder is around $20. Please post if you know of a cheaper price.

I have the Xploder and its great. I don't know about downloading codes, because I just type them in. I payed $20 for mine and I think thats about the average. http://www.cmgsccc.com has all the codes for it and many times they have more codes than Gameshark.com.
