This is one of the 4 DVD's that were done improperly by HKL.
DRAGON'S GATE INN was released with the wrong soundtrack and should be avoided. It's a damn shame, because it looks great.
SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW and DRUNKEN MASTER were released cropped from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 because they were under the stupid impression that a "compromised" aspect ratio would satify Pan & Scam lovers. This policy backfired and the venom HKL was subjected to caused them to change their policy and go full aspect ratio on every release.
ALMOST AS BAD is the fact that they used the terrible Mandarin dub insted of the Cantonese track, which is what most HK fans have heard for 20+ years now. Terribly distracting. The English dub is on DRUNKEN MASTER, so if you like bad dubbing, then that will satisfy you.
LEGEND OF THE FIGHTER was midway through the transfer when the decision was made to not crop films, so it was too late and it is cropped to 1.78:1. The trailer is 2.35:1.
There you have it.

The rest of the HKL series is awesome! I have most of the Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee films and love the hell out of these beauties! All are 16X9 and most of the newer releases have 5.1! Definitely worth a purchase if you like martial arts films.

DVD Talk Gold Edition
Bensons World is having a Hong Kong Legends sale and offering 11 of the titles for £12.00 (about $18.00 at current exchange rates) with free worldwide shipping. It's a great deal on some usually expensive discs. Here's the link: http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/mdv12.htm

Thanks to all for the information here. Been looking at getting a few of the HKL DVDs and this looks like giving me the opportunity at a decent enough price.
Now where is that credit card again...
