Finally broke down and gave in to my desires!!!

It's been many moons since I have enjoyed a wonderous anamorphic enhanced picture. Got a great deal on it, $2188 w/tax, delivery and setup.

A question though for other owners of this or similar sets. What format do you watch broadcast/DBS ?

I've left it at standard and it looks pretty good.

Turn down the brightness and contrast immediately! And get Avia to really adjust it properly.

I have the 805 (last year's model of the same set. We watch all of our standard TV broadcasts in Standard 4:3 mode. Love the set.

X, why turn down the brightness and contrast and what is Avia? Sorry for the newbie questions.

You need to properly calibrate your set so details are not lost in total blackness nor washed out in excessive brightness. Also, excessive brightness will cause "blooming" that distorts bright details. Avia (or Video Essentials) are DVD's that also help you set sharpness and colors for a much better picture. They also help with audio adjustments.

It really makes a huge difference in the quality of the picture.

Thank's for the info. Can you buy Avia at most retailers?

Anyone have troubles w/your mitsu 16x9s holding black at black (re:video essentials/low-high pluge). I have a 55807 and my dad had tyhe 65807 and on both sets i've had trouble getting it right.

If your DVD player can't pass a below black signal you should use Avia rather than VE to set the black level.
