Anybody know anything about the DishPVR that Dish Network is offering? I saw on their web page (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/products/dish_pvr/index.shtml) that they're offering a recorder, but there are scant details. Just wondering if anybody out there has one, and what kind of features it has.

I have one.
Basically, it takes a Dish Network receiver and adds to that:
- "TV Pause", which means you can pause any Dish Network channel while you answer the phone or go to the bathroom, for up to one hour total delay.
- "Tapeless (Hard Disk) Recording", it comes with 40GB of hard disk storage, which works out to roughly about 30 hours. You can set the timers to record programs, and then watch it them later with picture quality identical to live (no degradation since the Dish Network system is already digital). You can FF or REW at 4x, 15x, 60x and 300x speeds, and there are buttons for 10 second "replay" and 30 second skip ahead (what you call "Commercial Advance" ;) but the broadcast network wish you wouldn't :) ).
Some time in the next month or so, the unit will be upgraded to put a new 9-day Program Guide on the hard disk drive, which will be fully searchable.
Let me know (in this thread) if you have any more specific questions.

Right on, thanks very much! It turns out that since I'm on the Digital Dynamite plan, I can't upgrade to DishPVR until my plan runs out, which happens to be next month. I will plan to do so at my earliest opportunity. From what DishNetwqork has told me via e-mail it's my current 4900 box plus the recorder.

A lot is made about hard disk recording, but you'll be surprised how useful the "Pause" feature is.
There's nothing more irritating than watching something on TV and just when the "punch line" comes (or the news items you were waiting for, or perhaps a sports score) - the phone or the doorbell rings.
Or sometimes, in a TV show, a character seems to say "Grpph blomph bliff"
Then you can use the replay button in the Pause feature to play that line again with the volume turned up and find out what he was actually saying. :)

It's the "Grpph blomph bliff" feature that's selling it to my fiancee. She's always saying "What did they just say?
