From http://dvdownunder.com.au/news/dailyfix.htm

Then, sometime in June is the multi Oscar winning The English Patient hits DVD. Though lacking in any real extras it still comes with an Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer with a Dolby 5.1 audio track, a making of featurette, Bios and 3 trailers (two for other films)

The English Patient (M15+)
Picture : Anamorphic Widescreen
Audio : Dolby digital 5.1
Extras :

Behind the Scenes Featurette
Trailers (3)
Bios

Personal note:

THIS WILL BE A REGION 4 AUSTRALIAN PAL RELEASE. ALL THE USUAL REGION / PAL ISSUES APPLY AND PLEASE DON'T FEEL THAT I'M TELLING YOU TO BUY IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO OR THAT YOU HAVE TO POINT THESE ISSUES OUT OR COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM.

Unfortunate...

Too bad it won't have all the glorious extras of the LaserDisc... or will it ?

Is it already out in your region ? and this anamorphic is an upgrade ??? Our Region 1 intially was not Dual Layer.. then a Dual Layer came out... but still not anamorph... sigh

Thanks for the info!

The release date is June 13th. No, this couldn't be called a special edition by any stretch of the imagination so if you've waited this long you can probably wait until October or whenever the alleged R1 SE comes out.

Still, at with the current extremely low level of the $A (US$1 = AUS$2), the US$17.50 RRP makes it a pretty cheap option in the interim. You could probably sell it on ebay for more than that after watching it.

Doesn't sound too bad really.
