Well this isn't a kiddie site. Mainly adults are interested in DVD's. The youngest member I've came across was 15, an age at which most males are already looking at porn. I'm sure there are a few members younger than this, but Geoff needs to make a sight that caters to the vast majority of his members, not just a few "exceptions." I'm sure there are very few young members, and adults that dislike porn can simply ignore the ads and not click on them. Geoff has to make money and adult ads likely generate more clicks than ads for regular movies. Plus since the vast majority of members are adults, we should be allowed to discuss mature topics.

I think we are on a different page, Josh. I mean an adult forum as in a subset of the main forum. For example, we have a book forum, video games forum, an other forum, and then we could simply have a forum called "adult forum". Not a giant new huge forum dedicated to adult DVD like adultdvdtalk. You know what I mean?

I know what you mean but since there is already http://www.adultdvdtalk.com whats the point. Why not just allow some mature threads here and point the more testy ones to that site? We already have too many non-dvd/home theater forums here IMO.

How about for people at work?

Oh wait, us lazy arses should be working and not looking at the Internet, even if we get a mandated 10 minute break every 4 hours and can drink a soda, relax, and read some DVDTalk threads during that time...

Not trying to be funny, but have you ever actually taken a look at ADT? The one thing it's not is a bunch of undersexed teenagers posting bikini pics and making jokes about poopies. What it's for is discussion of porno DVDs and where to buy them, and discussion of the bedroom arts. Their "off topic" forum is much like out Other Forum was two years ago, and I very much doubt the admins would be happy if Geoff started pointing people in their direction so that they could post pictures of girls' arses.

The other thing is that ADT is much more of a community. Maybe it's just because it's still a much smaller site, but it has a strong sense of people actually conversing that this site lost a long time ago. And there's none of this rubbish about padding either; people (on the whole) only actually post when they've got something constructive to add to the conversation.

Like I say, it's not just an adult version of DVDtalk, it's a completely different site, and just because certain stuff could be considered too "edgy" for this site doesn't mean it belongs on ADT.

Good point TCHJ. Maybe Geoff should cut down on some off these threads and just ban some of these losers that just post nudie threads. They add nothing to this site as any moron can do a simple search and find the same pics.

And yes Galant Pig you should do something at work other than surf the net. Are you so addicted to the net that you want to be online during your break? If so you need help.

Heh, well I sometimes think you could insult someone's dead mother and get away with it using a or around here...

Truthfully, my main idea for proposing this is to not look like a hypocrite when I bitch about "mature" thread titles. I know Geoff takes crap about this from others as well. It seems to make sense, and would also give Geoff an appropriate place to post his Adult DVD bargains which contribute to his profit. Not to mention a place to let people post mature photos (since that contingent is pretty big around these parts)

Just a thought, no harm no foul.

I see your point. It's just impossible for Geoff to start an adult forum without overturning an earlier decision he made based on user feedback. A long time ago there was a heated discussion about whehter to have an adult dvd forum here. More members were opposed to it, so he opted to not have one and make a seperate site. Unfortunately he can't do away with the adult ads totally, because he needs the money to keep the site running. A technology based site is going to attract a larger amount of young males than any other age/gender group, and those in this group are more likely to click on adult ads. So Geoff is stuck offending some people to keep the site running.

Just a little history.

AdultDVDTalk was started up by the PR rep for one of the first adult DVD online stores he signed up as a DVDTalk advertiser. Her username was/is StephDunn, and she was a great person and DVDTalk member.

Sometime after the member discussion of discussing adult DVDs on DVDTalk (where there was too much negative feedback for Geoff to allow it), Steph approached Geoff about using the DVDTalk name as part of her own start up site to concentrate on the adult DVD industry.

Except for the name, and her previous work with Geoff, DVDTalk and AdultDVDTalk really have no formal connection to each other. In other words, unless there was some kind of licensing agreement over the use of the DVDTalk name, I don't believe he makes any money from AdultDVDTalk.

Also, Gallant Pig, you mentioned in your other thread that the mods used to say that such and such should be discussed at AdultDVDTalk...this was a common misconception among the members, some of whom would tell posters that such and such discussion "really belonged over at AdultDVDTalk." As TheyCallHimJim has put it above, their site is aimed at the discussion of adult DVDs and not sex topics. I can't tell you how many times I had to make posts asking people not to say "that really belongs over at AdultDVDTalk." But I don't think too many mods were saying this.

As for your specific question, I really don't think that having an adult forum would go over well with a significant portion of the DVDTalk forum membership. In addition to the practical problems of not wanting to create problems for people surfing from work or at home in a family environment, I think a great number of the members (not necessarily a majority, but at least 30-45%) would object to such a forum

That, of course, is just my opinion.

Thanks for the history and your careful analysis, Blade. Right now, naughty pics being posted at Other are kinda on the run. Last time Geoff laid down the law, they were kinda on the chopping block, and one member who posted them kinda got scared away and quite. Add to this fact that Sex topics are more popular than ever. Everyday sex topics are posted "Do you like squishy" and such. Some people like them, others don't. Some are turned off by them completely. A haven for these posts seems to make sense as well. Finally, Geoff makes a significant part of his revenue here off of AdultDVDs, as seen by his nightly banners. Whenever he posts adult bargains, they are seemingly out of place in this DVD Bargains forum. Add to the fact that Geoff could even post other adult oriented bargain items which could give him more revenue.

I think it could have several effects:

*Not discouraging "adult" oriented posters to quit coming here.

*Cleaning up Other and making it more office friendly.

*More revenue for Geoff.

There also seems to be a difference between mature threads, ones that are serious (such as TCHJ likes) and not-so serious (DesmondP). This could be remedied on this forum by posters who want to seriously discuss sex issues by putting a "(Serious)" disclaimer in their topic.

Geoff what are your thoughts? I hope you consider my ideas.

The only problem is the risk of offending and losing some of the 30-45% (Blade's estimate) of members that would object to such a forum. I was here for the original debate against having an adult forum, and the people who objected did so quite passionately. I would wager that we would lose more of them if we started an adult forum, than the number of posters that leave because they're afraid to post adult threads. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I would have no problem with an adult forum personally. I'm just saying why Geoff will be relunctant to do this from his past experience on the issue.

Obviously I am guilty of this. In my defense though, I do try to post some harder to find pics.(not always). I also spend a demented amount of time trying to find better, more clear versions of pictures that the average moron could find doing a search. A lot of people view these nudie threards I might add. 1240 views on my last thread

That's a lot offended people.

Besides, I may have single handedly introduced hundreds of people to Leeann Tweeden.

Maybe those people will buy Leeann Tweeden merchandise, helping to further her career. Which means more exposure.
More Leeann!!
But No! you would have her living in a dumpster.
Destitute and alone. Not knowing where her next meal will come from. How could you? (sniff)
What did she ever do to you?
I'm sure her parents will understand why she was cut down in her prime. try thinking of someone beside yourself next time.

She was almost a star....what a tragedy....

You Communist Bas..

I thought it was a bad idea, a really bad idea, but I don't think GK's afraid of losing people. I think he is more interested in keeping his life simple.
