The DVD picture is pretty good. It is a Criterion disk, so you wouldnt expect any low performance from that company.
The sound is only Mono because that is the way this 1980 film was recorded. A remix really cant be justified, plus there really is not alot of bass in this movie.
The disk has no extras, although it does come with the Criterion "Bar Target".
If you watch the movie closely you'll see a very young Pierce Brosnan.
Hope this helps.

Don't know about the DVD, but the film itself is marvelous, a top-notch British gangster flick with stellar performances by Bob Hoskins as a mob boss and Helen Mirren as his gal... It's the film that introduced me to them both, long before they started getting good Hollywood roles.
It wasn't on my to-buy list until you mentioned it, but it is now, thanks...

There are no extras on the disk, but the print looks wonderful. If you are fond of gangster movies, this is an excellent one.
Another great Bos Hoskins picture on Criterion is Mona Lisa.

Excellent movie. One of the few criterions I own and definitely worth it. Bob Hoskins is brilliant. Plus, P.H.Moriarty (can't remember his character's name -- Scars? Knives?), is also Hatchet Harry in LS&2SB, and you can see a lot of the comments, quotes, expressions go directly between movies. I guess it's more of a dialect thing for that area of London, but I still like seeing the connections.
