I was too young when Space Invaders and all them came out to be allowed to hang at the arcades! so i'd say the first Arcade game i really pumped a lot of coins into would be Commando because it was the only machine at the Sport Centre !

First game that I spent hours and hours on and lots of money on would have to be Galaga. I still love that game though. :)

Hm, I wasn't really allowed to play video games all that much. But when Mortal Kombat II came out, I had my own car and independence, and I must have spent several hundred dollars, at least, on that game.

The first arcade game that made me pump quarters into it was Gauntlet II. After you became good enough on the original Gauntlet, you can play forever. I once played a game of Gauntlet for 14 hours, and finally had to quit because I was tired, thristy, and hungry. But it was much harder on Gauntlet II, which the best I could do was 2 hours on a quarter.

The two that I remember spending bunches of money on were the original "Star Wars Death Star Trench Run" game (don't remember the actual title) and Bionic Commando (which I finally beat after spending many many quarters).

When I was young I spent alot of stolen quarters (my Dads) on Contra. I just couldn't get enough of that machine. It made me giddy like a schoolgirl.
The other game I spent way too much on was that semi-Holographic game Time Traveler. It was so much fun, but almost impossible. Hence the wasted quarters.

Ikari Warriors and Heavy Barrel were a couple of early quarter eaters. Also Golden Axe and Altered Beast.
My first was Asteroids, back in '79.

I guess I'm the old daddy around here. The first game I remember stuffing quarters into was a drag racing game. I don't remember much about it other than it was probably green or perhaps the car was green, and it did have a real christmas tree, and there was a model car in the center of the whole shebang. But, I can't remember the name of it, so I guess that doesn't count.
Demolition Derby (http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/arcade/ag1191.php) was the first game I really remember actually playing. I remember to one degree or another most of the games from the 70's that are on yesterdayland.com's site. Pac-Man was probably the first game I got completely mesmerized by.

Its a tie between four games. First is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
out of these four Double Dragon sticks in my mind the most because I played it every Friday when my mom and dad used to go bowling. Something about the scent of smoke and beer in the air brings back some fond memories..odd? yes but hey I had fun!:editking:

Wow, If I had a nickel for every quarter...:)
The first to cause problems was the original donkey kong.
I would play this for the entire weekend and every day after school. There was a chain of arcade/hot-dog joints in Omaha called W.C. Franks. Man o Man did I spend some jack!
Other quarter monsters were the following:
Dragon's Lair
Zaxon
Zevious
Star Wars sit down
Space-Ace
TRON (oh my god, the money I spent on this game!)
Spy Hunter
OH YEAH...GREAT GAME I JUST REMEMBERED !
ELEVATOR ACTION !

When Mortal Kombat first came out, my brother and I were with my parents in Las Vegas for a week. I spent at least 20 dollars a day on that game alone. When I came back to my rinky dink hometown I tore it up big time.
MK II and Street Figher II were my others. I remember one Sunday morning I took my moped to the mall and had the SFII machine all to myself. I spent like 10 bucks and beat it with every character. Zangief was the hardest, I sucked at the "circle the controller" moves. :)

My favs were always the vector graphic games... Tempest, Battlezone, Omega Race, Star Wars, Star Trek (prefer the sit down version), Red Baron and something w/ a squadron of ships and a tunnel (IIRC) but the name escapes me right now. I was never very good at Asteriods though so I didn't waste a lot of money on that ;)
Galaga and Xevious were my fav "full" graphic games.

The old vector-based Star Wars game was awesome, the one you could sit down in.
I think I must've blown up the Death Star at least a hundred times, and it never got old.
The games I hit up the most in my first arcade were Spy Hunter, Elevator Action, Bump 'n Run, Galaga... but back then if I had 3 dollars to spend I was overwhelmed! A whole 5 dollars to spend? That was like the holy grail.
By the time I got to the point that I was playing arcade games AND had a substantial amount of cash ($5-10) to spend it went to TMNT or Simpsons. I think I actually did see the end in those. Oh and Bad Dudes because it was at my mom's lunch counter.
And then there was Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat which I didn't even begin playing until I went to a bowling alley arcade with some friends (Rabbit77 being one of them...).
The LAST game I pumped an inordinate amount of quarters into was Raiden II at the bowling where I worked. Man I loved that game.

Wow, a 5 1/2 year thread resurrection. That must be a record!
My first ever arcade game that I played was Space Invaders in 1980. I was working at Sears in Glendale, CA and they had a machine near the cafeteria. I would spend my whole lunch hour there playing.
Ah good times, I was 50 lbs lighter and had a full head of hair!

Asteroids, yeah I know... but that's how I roll 'cause I'm old like that (36 to be exact). Sheesh, kinda sounds like a line from a Weird Al song. Anyway, in a "if I had..." moment, if I had pumped all the coins into the stock market instead of pumping them into Asteroids and every subsequent game that followed, I probably wouldn't have to work today. Who the hell am I kidding... the stock market's no fun anyway... I call next game!

36 here as well.... I just remember pumping the quarters in, but into various different games including Asteroids.
Hell I remember pumping quarters into pinball machines, etc.
I also remember being excited about going to Sears to play their Atari 2600 clone before I got one.
I'm just happy that gaming doesn't require us to deal with standing in arcades, pumping money into machines, etc... unless of course your standing in line, outside to pump a bunch of money into a new console :D

I remember dumping a ton of quarters into Pit Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, and eventually Final Fight at the skating rink back in the day. I loved losing all my lives and running out of quarters in Ninja Gaiden and Final Fight, because the continue screens were so cool.
I remember I was on vacation once years ago and the hotel had Magic Sword by the ice machine, and I spent so much money playing that over the few days we were there.
I probably could have paid my way through college with all the quarters I dumped into Total Carnage.
