Never seen this movie. Is it worth picking up on DVD? I like a lot of other cult 80's movies. Is this one any good?

Anyone not picking this movie up, deserves to be shot!

It's a good movie, if you're in for a goofy, martial arts, fantasy, action movie with not a lot of good jokes, good martial arts or good fantasy. It's not so bad it's good, don't take it that way.

One of the best popcorn movies ever made, IMHO. The acting is top notch all around, it's fairly big budget, and his highly entertaining.

It's really a great movie in allot of different ways. The special effects are good, it's funny, and unlike allot of action films it doesn't take itself to seriously.

Uhh...

Uhhh, the DVD won't be out for another month! But if you're asking whether or not you should get the DVD, go for it! This movie is a quite funny cross of wayward trucker meets Indiana Jones meets old Chinese fantasy movie...

Rent it on VHS and have a look, I guarantee that the DVD will be better!

Second all the above comments as well...

make that thirds!! This movie is a must own, it is easliy my most wanted release ever for DVD(that is saying a lot I know) but I would rather have this movie than Star Wars, Indy, Godfather etc... It was wayyyyyyyyyy ahead of its time when it came out and richly deserves all the praise that it is getting now days. Huge thumbs up from me.

Ps I actually saw this in the theater when it came out and went back 3 times that summer to see it again. mseg

Big Trouble in Little China is a great film for any decade. I haven't seen the dvd, but if the other 2 dvd sets from fox are any indication it should be well worth the purchase.

It's a very fun, entertaining picture. I watched it again very (very) early this morning and was very pleased with Fox's 2 DVD special edition. Audio/video quality is not tremendous, but is still very good. There's some interesting extras, but the highlight is the wonderful commentary with Kurt Russell & director John Carpenter.

No, I do not agree with that statement. They should walk into the next execution and ask if they can take the prisoners place.

This is an awesome fantasy film. 9/10.

I do agree that this movie is a great 80's flick. But if this kind of movie is your type i gotta recommend The last Dragon (woo hoo!!! and it's coming out on dvd in just a couple of months.) I think the last dragon takes the cake for movies made in the 80's that feature graet martial arts/comedy/adventure.....Now that i think about, it's too close of a call between Big Trouble and the last Dragon. Anyone want to throw in their two cents?

I think they'd make a great double feature!

Shoot me

I don't like it and can't understand why everybody else here does. I won't get into reasons here, I recently wrote a lot about this in the "favorite Carpenter film" thread. All I will say is: the critics were absolutely right about this film. (Still, it has some fun moments.)

It really is a classic of the 80's. It's probably the only new release I'll be picking up in the next month (other than Traffic)

Asked this in the main forum, but it's probably more appropriate here: I watched about twenty minutes of "Big Trouble" last night. Is anyone else having problems with the transfer? I'm noticing an annoying digital shift in the backgrounds--particularly noticeable in the opening scene.

Watching BTILC on laserdisc, I noticed that man with the big hat and the lightning attack. It is also the guy in the arcade game. Which depiction of this character came first? The arcade game or the movie version?
