22 Hours to Go
It's hard to believe that there's less than a day left in the KickStarter campaign. As I write this, including PayPal pledges, we're at about $143k, and it looks like we might crack $150k.
I'm not going to go and tell you to keep getting the word out -- you already know about that, and you're doing a great job.
Instead, I'm just going to give you a quick update on what we've been working on the last couple of days:
* I finished the prep work on the backend database that is going to handle all the pledge management and shipping.
* I imported the English DVD subtitles for OVA 1 and corrected the timing and layout for the 1080p24 presentation. This went faster than I thought, and I should have something for you to review next week sometime.
* We continued to refine our costings for various components of the project; this will give us a better estimate of the excess budget you will have to allocate.
Several people have contacted me about joining the project after the KickStarter campaign ends. The PayPal page will remain active until shortly before we actually start producing the sets next year, and we will update the budgets as the total funding grows.

Just a quick update to let you know that with 12 hours to go, we're at about $147.5k.

Well, the campaign is over... which means the hard work of delivering the set has only just begun.
I'll post a more detailed update tomorrow once I've crunched some numbers, but I wanted to take a moment and thank all of you for your participation in this project -- not just the money, but the time you have already spent improving it.
And since “Money Talks,” Natsumi and I are going to express our appreciation by declaring that the $160k Challenge Goal has been achieved. We're certain that we'll get over $160k in the coming weeks via PayPal anyway, so there's no point in waiting.
This means that we're going to pay for the Mastering and Authoring of a 3rd BD50 disc, so if you want one added to the set, the only budgetary cost will be the per-unit cost of the extra disc, packaging and shipping.
You'll get to vote on that, and other things, in the coming days.

Later that same year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This phenomenally successful manga series was adapted into anime format and spawned a TV series and half a dozen theatrical-release movies, all incredibly popular in their own right. Takahashi followed up the success of her debut series with one blockbuster hit after another. Maison Ikkoku ran from 1980 to 1987, Ranma 1/2 from 1987 to 1996, and Inuyasha from 1996 to 2008. Other notable works include Mermaid Saga, Rumic Theater, One-Pound Gospel, and RIN-NE.
Takahashi won the Shogakukan Manga Award twice in her career, once for Urusei Yatsura in 1981 and the second time forInuyasha in 2002.
