I haven't heard anything on that. I personally don't think that will happen.

Step 1 would be Japan releasing one (assumed to be sometime this year). U.S. release could be anywhere from 1 - 2+ years from the Japan release date.

It's doubtful that would ever see release on Blu-ray. Disney is not going to license an older dub from another company. Your best bet is to make it yourself (theoretically possible if you are handy with video editing software) or hope someone has already done the work on the Internet and uploaded it as a torrent.

What's with those ugly silhouette covers?

Are those the official ones or just promo things?

That Bluray boxed set is $627. Even for typical Japanese market fleecing, that's outrageous.

At $627 for 11 films, that is about $57 each. That's not so bad at all for Japan prices. I've paid as much or more for some of them individually when I was in Japan last year.

The only thing I don't like is I'd prefer a box set that had all the Ghibli films, including Ocean Waves (I Can Hear the Sea) and Whispers of the Heart, etc. Oh, and I'd want to include the Ghiblies, parts 1 and 2 as well.

Let's have a true definitive box set! And how about including the fireside chat between Miyazaki and Akira Kurosawa? That chat is the main reason I don't get rid of my Ghibli laserdisc box set...other than that they also include the original non-Disney dubs of Porco Rosso, Kiki, Totoro and Laputa...

Re: 1 & Only Studio Ghibli Blu-ray Thread

Considering that Ghibli is still continuing, there won't be a "complete collection" release. Do you really like the idea like the "James Bond Complete (so far) Collection", which gets updated every time a new Bond is released?

By the way, Ghiblies 2 is on "The Cat Returns".
Ghiblies 1 has not had a video release.

Off topic, but may be amusing to some.

gave up on Disney Home Video and splurged on the Japanese editions of 'Porco Rosso' and 'Princess Mononoke' (forgot that Kiki was also available - but will more than likely purchase it with 'Spirited Away')

Re: 1 & Only Studio Ghibli Blu-ray Thread

UK version on Princess Mononoke on Blu-ray comes out Monday. $28 shipped to my door in the US. Crap, wish I had a region-free blu ray player...they seem to be hard to come by and the few that exist have pretty poor reviews.

(I like the UK version as it has the english voice cast dub)

You could buy the Japanese Blu ray which is Region A and is English friendly with dubs and subtitles. Problem is your going to spend 50 bucks or so but at least you won't need a region-free player.

Very clever.

I think I would have liked these versions of PONYO, HOWL's and SPIRITED much better.

That's a little surprising. Did Disney and Amazon end their feud already?

No, Amazon just isn't playing hardball yet with Disney. Some Disney pre-orders are up, some are not.
