MSG (Gundam) movies and Eva series - audio question

Hi,

memory check (and i guess hopefully an update) on the audio, please !

I used to have these films on fansub vhs way back in the day and was very hopeful when I rented an official dvd version of the first film several years ago. Unfortunately, I found that the audio had been ridiculously tampered with.. new sound effects for just about everything (akin to putting call of duty gunshots into a gi-joe cartoon) and most distressing of all, odd pauses where there used to be dramatic music and new music where there used to be none !

I believe I noticed this in all 3 movies, but at this point I cannot remember for sure and I am wary of buying or even renting these again until I hear from someone else.

I seem to recall this happening to me with the platinum edition of NGE as well, most strikingly in the first episode scene where Shinji and his father are having their stirring dialogue prior to his launch MISSING shinji's theme.

Can anyone verify these? Is there a different version I should be looking for ?

Yes, the Mobile Suit Gundam movies used an updated audio track (with differences in music, sound effects, and voice actors) for their DVD release in the USA.

The original audio track is available on the later DVD releases (commemorating its 30th anniversary) in Japan, which include English subtitles, but only Japanese DVD menus.
