We couldn’t be more thrilled to officially announce our next Anime Movie Night event – The Ancient Magus’ Bride theatrical release! Crunchyroll will partner with Screenvision Media and KAOS Connect to debut the first three episodes of The Ancient Magus’ Bride upcoming series on the big screen. The Ancient Magus’ Bride is adapted from the wildly popular manga of the same name and comes from notorious WIT STUDIO, the studio that brought you Attack on Titan. Norihiro Naganuma (Yowamushi Pedal movie director, Death Note key animator) is directing the anime, and Aya Takaha (Psycho-Pass screenwriter) is penning the scripts. The theatrical screening will take place months before the series airs in Japan, and will include never-before-seen Crunchyroll exclusives before the screening, including the premiere and behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Crunchyroll’s first-ever original short Children of Ether.

Pony Canyon announced at its Anime Expo panel on Saturday the second season of Yuki Yuna Is a Hero will stream with English subtitles this October. The company also promoted the upcoming anime Sanrio Boys, which will premiere in January, but it has not confirmed subtitled streaming or a physical release, as it is in negotiations.
Ponycan USA is selling the full first season of Yuki Yuna Is a Hero on one Blu-ray Disc box set at its Anime Expo booth, and the set will ship on July 10. The new set includes all 12 episodes on three discs with English and Japanese audio and English and Spanish subtitles. The company previously released the series on three Blu-ray Disc/DVD collector's editions in 2015.

Anime studio Sunrise confirmed at its Gundam panel at Anime Expo on Saturday that the second season of the Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt anime will be dubbed into English. Sunrise is producing the dub track from NYAV Post.
Sunrise produced NYAV Post's dub for Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky, the compilation film of the first anime season based on Yasuo Ohtagaki's manga. The annual Sunrise Festival screening series will show the film's English dub at Tokyo's Shinjuku Piccadilly theater on August 15. Sunrise teased at its panel that the English-dubbed screening in Japan will have special guests.

HOUSTON, July 6, 2017 - Homegrown champions and bitter rivals will clash in Sentai Filmworks’ newest license for the Summer 2017 anime season: Action Heroine Cheer Fruits.
What starts as a project for a small-town festival gains traction when local heroines begin getting scouted for popular TV programs. At the urging of her aunt, a prefectural governor in Hinano City, high school senior Misaki Shirogane signs up to become a "heroine fighter" for her area - but everything changes when she has to save her town’s culture hall, a beloved structure that her grandfather helped build!
The series will be directed by Keizou Kusakawa (Campione!, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS), with series composition by Naruhisa Arakawa (So I Can't Play H) and character designs overseen by Naomi Ide (Problem children are coming from another world, aren't they?, Riddle Story of Devil ). The studio helming the project will be diomedea (Squid Girl, Girlish Number, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!).

Gkids is partnering with Studio Ghibli to handle the Japanese animation studio's catalog in North America, including Hayao Miyazaki's 2002 Academy Award winner "Spirited Away."
The alliance was announced Monday and will start with the Oct. 17 reissue of new Blu-ray and DVD editions of six titles from Miyazaki: "Spirited Away" and Oscar-nominated film "Howl's Moving Castle" along with "Kiki's Delivery Service," "My Neighbor Totoro," "Ponyo" and "Princess Mononoke," followed on Oct. 31 with "Castle in the Sky" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind."
The Studio Ghibli library is led by directors and studio co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Gkids has handled theatrical rights for the Studio Ghibli catalogue since 2010, and released "From Up on Poppy Hill," "Only Yesterday," "Ocean Waves" and the Academy Award-nominated titles "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya" and "When Marnie Was There."
Gkids previously announced a partnership with Fathom Events to bring six Ghibli titles back to theaters nationwide this year including "Kiki's Delivery Service," which will play on July 23 and 24 in both dubbed and subtitled versions at approximately 600 theaters.

So, @GKIDSfilms, great that you're re-releasing the big Ghibli titles. Can you please commit to putting proper subtitles on the discs?
The dubtitles on the current Disney releases are unacceptable and an affront to speakers of both English AND Japanese.
They'll have English subs (provided by Ghibli) for JPN audio, English SDH representing what is on the dub, and French. U should be covered!

You will be getting a Yamadas Blu (in early 2018), and we are always on the look out for ways to improve the new editions

But Kiki never had proper EN subs provided by Ghibli, so they're very likely dubtitles of the 1st English dub (by Streamline Pictures).

An update on today's Ghibli DVD/Blu announcement answering some common Qs, because w have always wanted to do a Notes tweet!
Forgot to add to this… there is still no Digital (iTunes etc) for the foreseeable future, and all Blus will be BD/DVD combo packs.
When do the preorders and final specs go live?
Preorders should be later this week… just didn’t want to get buried under SDCC. Specs hopefully live with that, still ironing some out.

just to be clear on "old dubs", is that about Warriors of the Wind & such or are Disney-era dubs for Kiki & others out?
Pre-Disney. Anything in current circulation you can assume is Ghibli-approved, and thats what will be on the discs.

Based on the original Initial D manga by Shuichi Shigeno, the movie trilogy is a retelling centered around the adventures of a bleak, uninspired high school senior named Takumi Fujiwara. Despite having no interest in racing, he ends up caught in an exhilarating world which ends up being far more dangerous than he imagined. As Takumi gets drawn deeper into the underworld of drag racing, he meets Keisuke, a competent racer, and his brother Ryosuke, the leader of the Red Suns.
Masamitsu Hidaka (S-CRY-ed, Pokemon) helmed the role of Chief Director for the films. Toshihito Naka served as director with composition by Aki Dobashi (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Yozakura Quartet). Anime production was helmed by Sanzigen & Liden Films, who are responsible for Black Rock Shoot and The Heroic Legend of Arslan.

A NOTE ON STUDIO GHIBLI BLU-RAYS:
First thanks to everyone for your kind words and enthusiasm!! It's surreal to have gone from owning a VHS tape as a kid to putting our logo on the same film decades later. Literally a dream come true.
I wanted to provide some quick answers to frequent questions:
- we may have gotten carried away with "ALL FILMS". The actual press release is more specific... we will now have all films in our collection except Grave of the Fireflies (always excluded due to the fact it is not represented by Ghibli in USA), and The Wind Rises, which is still new. And we are not going to re-release our current Ghibli titles (Poppy, Ocean Waves, Only Yesterday, Kaguya, Marnie). I'm proud of them, think we did a great job, and there's nothing I'd change yet.
- there will be three subtitle streams on every film: English for Japanese audio (translation), English SDH (aka "dubtitles"), and French
- if it's on the Japanese Bluray (from Ghibli), we probably have it. If it's not, sorry, I wouldn't expect to see it at this time. Old dubs, old tweaks etc. Ghibli is extremely particular about their masters and what is "studio approved." While I share some fondness/nostalgia for previous versions of things, Ghibli is particular about the dub you hear and the presentation you receive. In a good way. These editions will be "studio approved." We are carefully reviewing transfers, updating subtitles (where appropriate) and going nuts on the QC process. And pushing some buttons on requests every now and then. If you already own these releases, I don't expect a double dip... yet. We are going to try to earn it : )
- We are starting to release the catalog titles in October and will release a few new ones each month with a goal to get them all on shelves by end of Q1 2018.
- Yes this includes Yamadas on Bluray. I am really looking forward to spreading the joy of that film across the land.
- Artwork is going to be similar to previous US editions on some releases, different on others. It will be revealed this week for the October titles. Every Bluray will have a translated booklet, DVD and BD combo will have O-cards (slipcovers).
