“THE COMIC ARTIST AND HIS ASSISTANTS”

HOUSTON, April 17, 2014 – In this office the assistants hold the whip, and nothing will keep them from meeting their deadlines in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, The Comic Artist and His Assistants. This slice of life comedy series is directed by Takeshi Furuta (Tiger & Bunny, Place to Place) with series composition by Aki Itami (Flowers of Evil, Fruits Basket), character design by Hitomi Tsuruta (Gintama, Cyberteam in Akihabara) and animation production by ZEXCS (Say, “I Love You”, Chu-Bra!!).

The life of an artist can be hard: Long, laborious hours working in a studio with only your thoughts and assistants to keep you company. In the case of overworked mangaka Aito Yuuki his attempts to merge the two are so far unsuccessful. With so many lovely ladies around, Aito’s stream of consciousness tends to quickly get off the rails and take a turn for the perverse. His priorities are askew and subjecting his assistants to his fantasies has taken precedent over work. Despite Aito’s blatant abuse of power, his beautiful, talented assistants are willing to play along if it means that their work will be successful. It’s all for the sake of the manga, right? At least, that’s what they tell themselves until Aito’s gets a little grabby. Thankfully, editor Mihari is there to keep him in line, from threatening to fire him to physical punishment. Will Aito’s abuse of power result in romance or rough treatment? Find out in this comedy slice of life - The Comic Artist and His Assistants!

The Comic Artist and His Assistants will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties

Viz' announcement is HUGE.

Mind you, how did Viz--who is owned by Shogakukan--pull this off? Remember, the original anime seasons had Noako Takeuchi, Toei Animation and Kodansha (a rival to Shogakukan) as co-holders of the copyright/trademark; that is unless Takeuchi-san managed to wrest away part of the copyright from Kodansha.

Charlene is working wonders with Viz Media (used to be with FUNimation). This has to be the biggest anime announcement this year for R1.

I just realized VIZ never released Ultra Maniac on dvd, didn't they license it a few years ago? I liked the series and would buy a Blu-ray release if it ever comes out. I own the Geneon dvd boxset

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“K-ON! SEASON 1”

HOUSTON, May 20, 2014 – Grab your drumsticks, tuners and your trusty Giita and discover how the band got together in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, K-ON! Season 1. From original creator Kakifly, this musical slice of life comedy is directed by Naoko Yamada (Tamako Market, CLANNAD: After Story) with chief animation direction by Yukiko Horiguchi (Lucky Star, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya), sound direction by Yota Tsuruoka (Beyond the Boundary, The Big O), and animation production by Kyoto Animation (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Tamako Love Story).

Being late on the first day is exactly what you’d expect from Yui Hirasawa in her freshman year at Sakuragoaka Girl’s High School. The number of clubs fighting over her to join up is decidedly unexpected, and Yui has no clue which club to join: she’s not very athletic and knows next to nothing about the liberal arts, but she’s determined to do SOMETHING this year. As luck would have it she discovers a flyer for the Light Music Club, and what she thinks will be a carefree ride down easy street suddenly gets turned up to 11 when she finds out that in order to join, she needs to actually learn to play an instrument! With the energetic drummer Ritsu, extra shy bassist Mio, and piano prodigy Tsumugi, it’ll be easy to bring her skills up to speed before the Light Music Club gets the axe, but it may take a few licks to get these four new friends in sync and ready to rock! In this club the cakes, teas and high keys will make or break the band as Yui and her new friends play to their own beat in K-ON! SEASON 1!

K-ON! Season 1 will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Streaming rights only until stated otherwise. There may be a good chance this would be upscale anyways (2003).

Sentai Filmworks at Momocon 2014: Announcements Rundown

Sentai Filmworks made their way to Atlanta for Momocon 2014 this Memorial Day weekend, and we brought a couple of announcements with us. Just in case you missed our panel, here is what all we announced:

Box Set Love:

The Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions Numbered Limited Edition Premium Box Set will be shipping in time for the holidays, so make room on your wishlists for it!

Speaking of box sets, we will also be doing a High School of the Dead box set, which will also be out in time for the holidays. Chuni’s and zombies…what more could you ask for?

English Dubs:

Fan favorites Outbreak Company and Sunday Without God will be gettting an English dubs, which will be due out sometime this year.

We’ve gone back and taken a look at some catalog stuff and will be giving Maid-sama! the English dub treatment. I personally loved this title, so I’m super stoked to hear the dub, which will be out sometime this year!

Blu-rays:

Some of you have asked us why so many September releases have been DVD only. We can tell you now that K-ON! Season 1, Stella Woman’s Academy, High School Division Class C3, and Tamako Market will all be receiving Blu-ray versions very soon.

While we’re on the subject, the beautifully animated Tari Tari will also be released on Blu-ray soon, so watch out for that!

Violence Jack complete OVA series coming to DVD in early 2015! It will include the Japanese language with English subtitles, and the English dub. This will be the longer version.
The masters will be the same as the Japanese version, the video is uncut, with some mosaic used. These are the only masters that exist.
There will not be a blu ray. This will be DVD only, just like Mad Bull 34. There are only one set of masters and they are standard def.
