Thanks for the info on the Viz Media streetdates treatment.
Upon closer inspection, the R3 (Taiwan) version is very close to the Korean release. The only difference as far as I can see would be that still book. The R3 (Taiwan) version doesn't include that still book. Everything else looks to be the same. If you still want pictures I can take them and post them here if need to be.

Just saw Black Lagoon Volume #1 (from Netflix) and I thought it's great series. I understand that Black Lagoon is under Geneon release, so are we stuck with season 1?

It's yes and no.

The short term answer is yes. But it should be a matter of time before the 2nd season gets rescued by another studio.

The long term answer is no. According to a representative from The Ocean Group, all of the dubbing work for Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage will be completed (same actors, same everything). Law of Ueki and The Story of Saiunkoku (39 eps.) will get the same treatment as well. Until these series gets picked up by another studio, everything will remain as they are.

Anyone give me some help buying the series "Gatchaman". I know nothing about this and Amazon shows 20+ different items. I would prefer buying one box set if it is available.

ADV Films never released a single boxset for the whole series and they may never will. This series is heading toward OOP status. There were 18 individual volumes and there were 9 boxsets (which will include all 18 volumes with artboxes) as well. RightStuf.com has the individual volumes (Vol.16 is sold out) for $4.99 each and boxsets for $12.99 each.

Thanks for that site, WTK.
Every title shows (HYB) next to it. Any idea what that means?

And I also found this on Ebay, but now that I see that rightstuf site, this seems to be too cheap.

Hyb means that it's dubbed in Japanese and English. The eBay item (though it's incomplete) appeared to be genuine, but please remove the eBay link. You're not supposed to post any links to auction websites here.

Done. It just seems cheap for all those volumes. Worried about torrents/bootlegs. Thanks.

It looks like Viz Media is no longer giving Death Note a monthly release treatment!
  • Death Note, Vol.2: 12/18/07
  • Death Note, Vol.3: 2/26/08

Ouch.

I still don't understand why everything (Anime) takes too long to release in America.

This sucks. I'm don't own a lot of anime yet. I have Elfen Lied, Gantz, Planetes, Paranoia Agent, and a few other complete series sets. (I don't like the cutesy stuff with big eyes or the mechas.) One thing that I always found hard to swallow was the high cost for individual volumes, so I've only bought series sets. With Death Note I made an exception--primarily because they were planning on releasing them so quickly. Now I wish I'd waited...

Maybe they are spacing out the release schedule because they feel that people aren't buying because they anticipate an eventual box set when all are out? *shrug*

If you haven't seen 'em yet, how about Trigun, Outlaw Star. CB and those two all came out in '98 and while the have bounty hunter/gunslinger type theme and are different in thier own ways. And try Heat Guy J, ROD OAV and Gungrave.

Anime Planet has a recommendations too. You can search for titles you like and and it recomends shows. This is what it came up with, though a lot of these don't fit in the same type of show you're looking for. Like DNAngel for instance. o.o

Hope it helps. ^^

Anime Releases Tumble

Quote:
December 17, 2007

According to the ICv2 Guide #50: Anime/Manga the number of anime releases are decreasing compared to 2006, while the number of new manga new volumes continue to rise. Both markets will be facing challenges in 2008 with anime affected by wide-spread illegal downloads and consumers who are content to wait for more economical thinpak collections, and manga publishers will continue to compete for finite shelf space for new and backlist volumes.

In the new Guide, ICv2 includes a survey of manga publishers that shows a likely 18% increase in the number of manga volumes published in 2008 vs. 2007, after a 35% increase in 2007 over 2006. On the anime side, ICv2 found that the number of anime releases continues to decrease, with a decline of roughly 20% in 2007 not including the effects of Geneon's collapse in October.

The ICv2 Guide #50 has overviews and top release information for March and April manga, anime and Asian live action releases in North America, and reviews of contemporary manga and anime series by librarians and members of the ICv2 staff. The Guide also contains ICv2's Top 25 Anime Properties list as well as its authoritative Top 50 Manga Properties list, based on sales across multiple channels.

Here are the top ten titles from each list:

ICv2's Top Ten Manga Properties for September-October 2007:

2. Bleach
3. Fruits Basket
4. Death Note
5. Kingdom Hearts
6. Vampire Knight
7. Pokemon
8. Fullmetal Alchemist
9. Negima
10. Gentlemen's Alliance

ICv2's Top Ten Anime Properties for September-October 2007

Quick question regarding the Death Note Live Action Movie Boxset. I know it's Region 3, my question is if there's any way to be sure my PC/DVD player will play it. As awesome as it looks, I'd hate to pick it up and not be able to watch it.
