BD questions..

How come Blu Ray still has black bars in most of the releases?..I mean with the technology why can't it decipher the size of your screen and optimize out??..I don't get it..can't they come out with firmware to fix this??..

On a audio side..I find Blu Ray does not play audio CD's as well as the sound quality of the BD movies..adjusted the surround and equalizer, etc..but still sounds muffled....

Re: BD questions..

The black bars are there to preserve the original aspect ratio of the film. Even with a widescreen monitor/TV, 2.35:1 movies are still wider and need bars on the top and bottom to show the whole image without stretching it or chopping off the sides. You can't just "make it fit" without compromising it in some way.

I suggest reading Joshua Zyber's article on the subject: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/764

I don't know what you mean by the CDs not sounding right. Well, unless you're referring to the "loudness war" (do a Google search on it) which has unfortunately affected the sound quality of many modern CDs. The film industry has standards for volume and hasn't succumbed to this.

That would destroy the picture, either cropping or stretching it. If you want that, I'm sure your player or TV has a zoom mode that will do so for you, already.

"Technology" can't read your mind...yet. So how would it be able to optimize for you as opposed to someone else?
