I have recently bought several of those titles, but I got them from Big Lots for $3.00 each.

The Hammer version of The Mummy is a nice deal at 5.79.

Not necessarily. I've seen posts from people who claim they'll not purchase "Gone with the Wind" (as well as other older classsics filmed in "Academy" ratio) because it's offered FS only. I can only hope they saw the faux WS version done by MGM in 1967 in an attempt to get a new round of theatre showings, think that *was* the OAR, and actually know that *most* films before 1953 were shot "FS" only.

You'd be more accurate saying "non OAR" or "P&S".

i don't know, Bob, I recently saw someone post about the planned Blu release of Rod Serling's TWILIGHT ZONE, hoping it would FINALLY come out in its original widescreen aspect ratio. !!!

I'm going to wager almost all of the WB catalog titles will go OOP within the next couple of years.

Re: Amazon $5.79 DVD Sale

Warners dumping these off at Big Lots and offering them for $5-6 at sales from online retailers strongly indicates they're just trying to (a) get rid of existing inventory and (b) get what they can fror those they have left.

Look for a suitable moritorium period (about a year) and then they'll start showing up again on the Archive. I wonder if they would include some of the features like commentaries and "Warner Night at the Movies" shorts and cartoons.

I doubt if any of the Archive titles will ever have extras.

Agreed. Mishandled on my part, though I consider pre-1953 films to be Academy Ratio rather than Full Screen. In my mind Full Screen is a derogatory term -- even though, technically, Pan and Scan is the real disease.

Back on topic... The Mummy for $6 is a must-have for Hammer fans.

^That it is... even if you're not a Hammer fan "The Mummy" is a very good remake and deserves to be in your collection if you are a fan of the Universal "classic" monsters or own the Uni "classic" version.

They seem to be releasing a lot of these on those TCM 4 film sets or on the 4 film favorite sets. So the original single dvd's are oop but will most likely be in new economical sets.

And the pre-existing WB box sets are still in print. It is, as you note, the single DVDs that are kaput.

I doubt any of them will spend money for new extras like documentaries or audio commentaries. If they recycle catalogue films with existing extras, it wouldn't cost them anything to port the extras over and make the disc more desirable to would-be purchasers.

Re: Amazon $5.79 DVD Sale

I have found that most of these titles that are available at Big Lots have a gouge or rip through the UPC code. For me, this is unacceptable.

Re: Amazon $5.79 DVD Sale

Definitely not dead.

I also found some movies tonight that aren't on the list on the previous page:

BLACKBOARD JUNGLE
PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX
MADAME BOVARY
GENTLEMAN JIM
DARK PASSAGE
HIGH SIERRA
FOR ME AND MY GIRL

It'd be nice if Amazon could group these together somehow. I suspect there may be others at this price point tucked away in there.

I definitely cleaned up on these. Nothing left on my WB wishlist now except Zabriskie Point.
