I thought the order was this:
1. Phantom Menace
2. Attack of the Clones
3. Tartakovsky Clone Wars
4. Clone Wars movie
5. Clone Wars cartoon series
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. New Hope
8. Empire Strikes Back
9. Return of the Jedi


It's so sad that the all the cartoons are better than the live-action prequels still. But now that the cartoons exist, I see the prequels as cartoons with live-action added in there in order for me to somehow appreciate those prequels...

The end of Vol. 2 of Tartakovsky Clone Wars leads directly into the beginning scene of Episode III, so that would have to be viewed last of the animated Clone Wars stuff (if it is still considered canon).....
If it is, then I'm guessing you could watch Vol 1. of Tartakovsky Clone Wars first, then the CGI Clone Wars movie, then the CGI series, and end with Vol. 2, but I guess it will all depend on how the CGI series eventually transpires....I haven't watched the Tartakovsky CW in awhile, so I am not sure if any of it will be able to fit in with the CGI series canon-wise....

Went to the Target by my work at lunch, they had a handful of copies with the kids stuff. $29.99. It's a nice package, the discs are on plastic trays on the inside covers, they overlap but aren't stacked. The book is all production sketches, not much written stuff except for the notes on the sketches. Still, a nice presentation.

I'm actually thinking about the timeline based on the villain Asajj Ventress' evolvement. Doesn't Asajj Ventress escape at the end of Tartakovsy Clone Wars Vol. 2? And in the Clone Wars movie, she just appears as if we already have been introduced to her? I have to watch the Tartakovsy volumes again...

If this new Star Wars Clone Wars cartoon ends, I'm expecting that Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano will be killed off in one of the final episodes...

You might be right, but just like you, I haven't watched the Tartakovsky Clone Wars in a few years so I can't remember all of the details....the one thing that was seared into my brain about it, though, was that the very end scene of Vol. 2 basically led exactly into the very beginning of Episode III, with the space battle...the end of Vol. 2 was Anakin and Obi-Wan getting into the Jedi fighters and taking off into space to battle in pursuit of the kidnapped Palpatine....

OK, just checked Wikipedia...looks like Asajj isn't even in Vol. 2, hmmm....it says Anakin defeats her at the end of Vol. 1, but she survives because she falls into a deep crevasse.....

The Tartakovsky Clone Wars doesn't really follow a straight line.

As such, there's no easy way to fit the events of this series in with the current CGI series; it would appear that the CGI series takes place between scenes in the third volume.

Of course, I'm not sure what is actually canon and what isn't. The Clone Wars have also been covered in a number of novels and comics, and I think that these things occasionally contradict each other. The way Lucasfilm has set up the official canon seems to be that something published in a book/comic/cartoon is considered canon until something higher up the chain contradicts it. So where that leaves the Tartakovsky series and Asajj Ventress, I don't know.

Also, there's a scene in Vol 2 where Anakin and Padme have a secret rendezvous, that Genndy basically admitted is when Luke and Leia were conceived. Padme was supposedly fairly close to full term when she gave birth, so that's one indicator.

Also flipped through the book a little more last night, there's a couple of really nice breakaway diagrams of R2-D2 in there, the best part of the book in my opinion.

Tartakovsky's Clone Wars fits in fine with the current Clone Wars. Asajj has yet to be killed off, cartoon, comic, novel, video game, or otherwise. There are people that work for Lucas that are in charge with keeping continuity between all of the mediums, so I would be very surprised if something like Tartakovsky's Clone Wars would be thrown out and no longer regarded as part of the official story.

One thing that annoyed me about the Tartakovsky's Clone Wars was the fate of Durge. Durge's storyline should have been resolved in one of the animated series, not in a comic book. He was such an insane character.

I thought that DURGE did get killed in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars? Or was it one of those "he could be gone, but maybe he's not gone"-type endings?

He was left as a pile of ooze that was moving back together T2 style.

Lucasfilm has yet to make any sort of definitive time line regarding the clone wars as there are currently several sources that conflict one another.
Part of this is because much of the story was told through various mediums (books, video games, etc.) right after Episode II came out and it was unclear what all Episode III would include. Because of this, there are some books published around 2002 that include a Clone Wars time line that is now, in now way accurate.

As far as the 2D Clone Wars cartoon is concerned, I can't imagine the fact that the DVDs have gone out of print is a good sign that they will remain canon. (Though Holiday Special is still canon despite never being released) In any event there is no way that it can come before the current 3D animated series, as the 2D series leads directly into Episode III while it can't come after as it also serves, chronologically at least, as the introduction to General Grievous who is in the current TV show.

My personal hypothesis would be that Lucasfilm does not want the current story of the Clone Wars to be bound by any previously told story, so for the time being the 2D series is not being considered important. If, when the 3D show is over, there is no direct conflict, the earlier series might be brought back into production though probably as random additional stories sprinkled throughout the stories told by the 3D show.

Durge was created by Dark Horse Comics. He was always much more of a main character in the comics than in the cartoon where he was basically relegated to a guest star appearance. It makes sense to see Durge's fate in the comics.

Ventress is similar. She was also created by Dark Horse and was a bigger player in the comics. Her ultimate fate is also shown in the comics.

We've watched the first 9-10 episodes, and this is just a great little series (including the Jar Jar one). I still have to wonder what Genndy could have done, but from the featurettes, it's clear these showrunners are also big fans and just want to have fun too.
