Re: Wagon Master: 9/15/09
Same day as Directed by John Ford. Instead of flipping the latter into the old John Ford box, it seems daft for Warner not to make a new one - Wagon Master, 7 Women, The Plough and The Stars, Flesh, The Fugitive (which has been mired in rights issues for a while I believe), Young Cassidy (which Ford worked on and was replaced by Jack Cardiff) and Directed by John Ford.
Still, we have to be thankful it's coming out at all...

EDIT; from May 19's New York Post:
Even Dan Ford has never seen "The Plough and the Stars"; a Sean O'Casey adaptation starring Barbara Stanwyck that Pappy made at RKO as a followup to "The Informer'' in 1936. (Janus distributed it in theaters and on TV in the '60s and '70s but it hasn't surfaced since).
Dan Ford does have a videotape of another O'Casey project, the multi-story "The Rising of the Moon'' (1957) with the Abbey Players and narrated by Tyrone Power. Warner Bros. distributed this independent production stateside but it's unclear who owns the rights now. The Ford that Dan would most like to see on DVD is "Wagonmaster'' with Ben Johnson, which Ford and Merian C. Cooper's Argosy made for RKO release. This is apparently owned by Warner as part of its vast Turner -holdings, as are the unreleased-on-DVD "Flesh'' (Wallace Beery) "The Fugitive'' (Henry Fonda) and "Seven Women'' (Anne Bancroft) along with "Young Cassidy'' (Rod Taylor), which is officially credited to Jack Cardiff but was largely directed by Ford.

Its about time WHV released a classic movie. Been a while.
Hopefully they will release more instead moving them to their Archive Line.
Just about any Western with Ben Johnson and Harry Carey, Jr is must have for me.
