The African Queen? 23 March 10

So I am wondering if anyone has any news or knows when The African Queen will be released on DVD. I figured they would have done a 2 disk special edition of this by now, like they did with Casablanca and Treasure. Thanks for any info guys

I remember seeing THe African Queen DVD in a dollar store. It was in one of those cheap cardboard covers. Probably not the best quality copy though.

Meanwhile, the R2/Pal release from the UK has an excellent commentary by cinematographer Jack Cardiff, which may not get carried over to an R1 release,

You're probably thinking of something else (African Screams maybe?)... The African Queen is not in the public domain, and would not be released by a budget label.

Paramount's Martin Blythe said back in April 2003 at HTF
[The African Queen] at the moment is a candidate for a full-blown restoration so y'all just going to have to be patient.
I have not heard any updates on its status since then.

I knew this thread was missing a "?"... but yeah, I clicked any way. Always hopeful.

Strange to be bumping an almost four year old thread, but still no African Queen?

Has anyone heard anything new about this? I can't believe it's not out yet on R1.

With a little luck, maybe the first release will also get a Blu Ray disc.

I can't believe that Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie is available on DVD, but not African Queen.

Well, according to the Rumor Mill at TheDigitalBits, Paramount is working on a high-def transfer (along with one for Wings), so we may see something next year...

I read that too. I also read someplace that the print was heavily damaged and that's the reason they hadn't released it. Maybe it will become part of the Centennial Collection.

The African Queen in October

No line on price or bonus features, but Paramount has scheduled an October 13th release date for The African Queen as part of their Paramount Centennial Collection series. Stay tuned for more details...

Looks like I made my post a couple of seconds after you did. This probably deserves a fresh thread with official release date in the thread title. If you want to create said thread, go for it.

Cool, I thought maybe this movie was too damaged and would never come out.

Wow, just wow. About freakin' time, may or may not buy it but not putting this out on STANDARD DVD in 2008 is just tragic given the leads and Bogart's Oscar win for the movie.
