My guess is , like most of us, we haven't had the pleasure of spending three or four hundred dollars for a DVD player and 40 or 50 dollars for a DVD in a long long time. Remember those days when VCR players cost 400 bucks and VHS tapes cost 90 bucks for a movie. Ahh, the good old days. It looks like Deja Vu all over again.

So when a lot of us are scooping up 3 dollar DVDs at Big Lots, we just aren't getting the guys spending 40 or 50 bucks for Blu Ray DVDs. Which by the way are slowly coming down in price so that even those that have drunk the Kool -Aid are saying " Whaaaaat, they want 26 bucks for that movie?"

So are we laughing at those guys. Yeah. Is high def the wave of the future? Yeah. Are we ever going to pay 90 bucks for a movie again? Nahhh. Was he being snarky? Well, I got where he was coming from.

My first Beta machine was $600 for a Beta hi-fi around 1982. $600 in 1982 would be how much today? Movies weren't even available yet. You taped off HBO. The early VHS tapes were so expensive, why buy a movie when you could tape from HBO and have the same quality. DVD and now Blu-ray are getting affordable at a much faster rate than today's group can realize.

The early days of DVD benefitted from an internet marketing model that relied on losing money in exchange for ad revenue and peoples information. We don't have that anymore so expect to pay what is essentially a really good price for these movies for some time.

I went to my first Fry's back in January just outside Chicago. Although the setup wasn't as fancy as a BB, the movie selection and prices were much better.

It's not the BD prices but the normal DVD's from Disney (Cars, Wally, etc...) on sale for $15.00!
What kills me while they keep the BD prices up they try and push what sales are on the players. Anyone with a ounce of common sense can add that up to = not worth it.

If you ever paid 40 or 50 dollars for a DVD, or you are now paying 40 or 50 dollars for a Blu-ray Disc, then you're doing it wrong.....

Plenty of titles can be had for under $20. If that's your idea of "really expensive", then I guess BD is not for you.

Definitely YMMV, but keep an eye out, beacuse even through the SKUs are different, I got no argument from management when I pointed to the signage stating UR/DC.
