Scrubs: The Complete Eighth Season ---------> 11/17/09

The eighth season of Scrubs with Zach Braff and his cohorts has previously been announced for a DVD bow on August 25. The Blu-ray version won't arrive on store shelves until November 17, almost three full months later.

Tech specs are still hazy but I can report all 18 episodes will span 2 discs. Probable but unconfirmed specs are 1.78:1 1080p video and some flavor of lossless audio.

Bonus features are almost identical to the DVD version with the exception of two additional never-before-seen webisodes.

* My Bahamas Trip
* Deleted Scenes
* Bloopers
* Alternate Lines
* 10 Webisodes
* 2 Additional Webisodes (BD exclusive)

Retail pricing for Scrubs: Season Eight on Blu-ray is $54.99 for the two-disc set (that is not a typo).
Yeah. It's coming. It may be 3 months after the DVD release...but its coming. This gives me hope for the other titles that were post-poned.

Scrubs episodes usually only run close to 21 minutes with credits, it's always been slightly shorter than most shows IMO, so 9 eps per disc is only a little over 3 hours... not sure if I'll get this on blu-ray or dvd... I usually wouldn't hesitate for blu-ray but with the delay and the fact I've got the first 7 on SD, I may go with standard just to stay consistent (although this year of Scrubs in widescreen HD has been the best it's ever looked).

Scrubs on Blu-ray!

I'll probably end up buying both the DVD and the Blu-ray of season eight. It's my favorite show of all-time and they really did a fantastic job on the season/series finale ("My Finale").

Exactly. The bonus features don't look like much either, so it shouldn't be a problem fitting everything on the two discs. The biggest problem I see is that $54.99 MSRP. That seems awfully high for two discs.

I'm still holding out hope for a complete series set on DVD. Then pick this up for the final season since it's the only one likely to see a Blu-Ray release.

I'm at a crossroads. I have Season 1-7 on DVD...so its kinda of odd to get 8, possibly the final, on Blu-ray. Amazon will likely have this for $38ish while the DVD will be $27ish. Hmmm.

Also good news is Grey's Anatomy S5 is back on. Just not when the DVD arrives...

For those of you concerned about mixing DVD and BD, there's hope for you:
John Inwood, the cinematographer of the series, shoots with his own Aaton XTR prod Super16 film camera. Except for the finale of Season 5, "My Transition", which was broadcast in high definition, the first seven seasons of the show have been broadcast in standard definition with 4:3 frame aspect ratio.

After the show was moved from NBC to ABC, the broadcast format for new episodes changed to high definition. John Inwood believes that older episodes will be re-released in HD as well. He protected for 16:9 aspect ratio from the very beginning so episodes could be aired in HD format when the market evolved. In his opinion, footage from the Super16 camera was not only sufficient to air in HD format, it looked terrific.

I'll probably pick this up at some point. It's awesome that Scrubs is coming to Blu-ray.

If Castle gets renewed (which is likely) we might see Season 1 as well on Blu-ray. Given the 9 episode order it could be MSRO $39.99 for a street of $27ish.

That's my dilemma.

If they put them all out, I might consider it. Maybe.

Same here (well, no S7 yet) but stuff like this I prefer to just get on DVD. TV sets are great to have as a more portable format for road trips, or to pop in anywhere.

The show wasn't shot in HD until this season (save for one of the season finales, I think), so you'll be waiting a while.

Looks like if you buy Season 8 DVD a $10 discount voucher will be inside for the Blu-ray.

Not entirely correct, it wasn't broadcast in HD until Season 8, save for one of the finales. It was filmed in Super16 16mm film. The DP protected the 16x9 area for future HD broadcasts, so there's always a chance it will be redone in HD, similar to Seinfeld.
