Hannah Montana: The Movie [reviews thread]

I'm nearly two decades older than the target demographic and I can honestly say I really enjoyed this movie. It's funny, sweet, and a nice time at the movies. Sometimes that's all you really need and this film delivered in spades.

It was great that the movie plays like a feature film instead of an extended episode of the show. I also like that Rico and Oliver were reduced to mere cameos. They are my two least liked characters in the show.

The songs were infectious (it was entertaining to see all the little kids in the audience sing along), and the shennanigans with the family were funny and endearing without veering into eye-rolling moralizing or melodrama.

My only complaint is that the film seems in too much of a rush to wrap things up during the final reel. I think they could have gone on for another five ten minutes rather than have practically everything get resolved during those final moments. Still, it's definitely a movie I'd like to go see again.

for me.

Anyhoo, here are some other reviews of the movie:

Why not? There's no shame in seeing a lighthearted family film, even if it is Hannah Montana.

I watch the tv show (no shame, it is a good sitcom!). The movie was ok... not as good as the tv show. I also felt that the tv show utilized better songs, although I did like the rock version of the tv theme song in the movie (which they also use on the tv show now).

Unlike yourself, I thought that the way they blew off Oliver in the film wasn't a good move. He and Lily have really good chemistry on screen. Less Rico is always good, though.

I can take Oliver but only in small doses. Even smaller doses for Rico. That's why I was happy their roles were reduced. That said, I feel there wasn't enough of Lilly. She's the Ethel to Miley's Lucy. I really missed their interplay during the middle of the movie.

It also bugged me how quickly Lilly forgave Miley. I knew it was gonna happen but I would have liked to see that develop gradually and not be so instantaneous. Still, their few antics together were a lot of fun even if they didn't reach the goofball heights they did in the show.
