The Broken-Afterdark Horrorfest 3 DVD not in OAR
I know this isn't on the level of Lord of War, but Lionsgate has cropped the 2:35:1 aspect ratio of the Broken to 1:78:1. For anyone familiar with this movie, the cinematography is (was) fantastic. The new version is not open matte, it's zoomed in and the picture is grainy and cramped. Having seen Sean Ellis' previous film, Cashback, it's clear that he knows his way around a widescreen image.
I don't understand why Lionsgate does this, they also did it to director Chris Smith's movie Creep with Franka Potente. I had purchased the UK release long before it was released domestically, but when it finally came out in the US I just checked out the disc at BB and noticed it had been cropped to 1:78:1. But no one noticed and no stink was made.
What's strange is that they kept the 2:40:1 aspect ratio of The Butterfly Effect 3, also an After Dark Horrorfest release. How does Lionsgate decide what movies to crop and which one's to leave alone? It all seems so arbitrary.

How annoying. Just bought the movie the other night.
What's odd is that the first 5-10 minutes of the film are in 2:35:1 then it jumps to 1:78:1

Yeah, thanks Justin for the shout out. I have been going to as many sites as I could and posted this error but no one seemed to notice or care. Anyone know if the UK DVD is in OAR?

Gotta agree with this. I threw out the lenticular covers shortly after I bought the movies I wanted from the set.
cbtaber, I haven't seen any reviews on the UK disc yet. I believe it dropped last week, so hopefully someone will review it soon.

I don't plan on getting any of the Horrorfest titles, but that's besides the point. Seriously, what the hell? It pissed me off when they did it with Lord Of War, and it'll continue to do so until this practice stops.
O.A.R. ALWAYS! (and I don't mean the band!)

Good horror film though. I watched the majority of the film through my fingers. With the hand covering my eyes, I created my own 3.39:1 aspect ratio! I couldn't even take away my hand during the nude scenes of Lena or the other young actress in it. Mirrors in horror films just freak me out!
