Signature question...how much is 5 lines?

So, it looks like a mod/admin found my sig to be over the 5 line limit. So, i think some clarification is needed. Reason i ask is because when i change the sig, if it is too long, i get one of the two following remarks:

1. Your signature cannot be longer than 450 characters excluding BB code markup.
2. Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 5 line(s). Long text may have been implicitly wrapped, causing it to be counted as multiple lines.

So, i basically changed it to meet these two requirements, so that it would allow me to post the sig. So i should've been fine, or so i thought. Apparently, not so, because a short time after changing the sig, it was deemed too long by the administration.

so, i'd be happy to revise it, but i need to know what you consider to be 5 lines? so, in addition, i request that the administration change the system so that it ACCURATELY tells you when you're over 5 lines and not allow you to use that sig. This is so that i do not waste my time posting a sig that vanishes, and also so as to not waste the time of the mods/admins.

Also have a question.

What is considered an ad because mine indicated [Removed ad]?

It might help if you showed an example?

i would, but mine was deleted, and i don't remember exactly what was in my sig. perhaps the mod/admin who deleted it could post my sig that exceeded 5 lines here, and explain what i would need to do to make it acceptable?

Use Goggle search and click on "cached".

that was my old sig, not the one that was deleted for violation of the 5-line rule. the one that was deleted here is the one where i had a quote from abrg and supr. i had to modify the quotes several times to get it within the 5-line rule so the system would let me enter it.

Re: Signature question...how much is 5 lines?

I didn't delete it, but on my browser your updated signature was more than 5 lines. I think what did you in was the "Originally posted by" portion of the quotes, and the fact that they were being wrapped around due to you using actual quotes instead of just the text. You could probably get it to work if you posted it this way instead:

"abrg: whine whine
suprmallet: why so serious?"

That way the wrap around will run the length of your sig window. Don't use the [ quote ] portion of it. Does that make sense?

Re: Signature question...how much is 5 lines?

It's very simple to determine whether a signature is more than 5 lines. When displayed, if the signature takes up more than 5 lines on a typical, reasonably-sized monitor (1024 - 1280 horizontal pixels) it's more than 5 lines. This includes blank lines, dashed-line lines, underscore-line lines, etc.

You can't rely on the vBulletin software to determine whether it's over 5 lines because things like new lines can be inserted when the signature is displayed but the forum software doesn't recognize that that will happen when it's entered.

Your signature was an ad containing advertising verbiage with 4 links to your commercial website. That is not allowed so it was removed.

You sure did take a few liberties! You can't make it so abrg looks like the uneducated one? My quote looks like it was written by a 16 year old girl texting her friend.

And by the way, I'm viewing this on my television and your signature still shows up as 6 lines, and that's with Firefox filling the entirety of my screen. I'm not sure how you're seeing it as two lines.

It shows as 2 lines on my 24" LCD, and as 4 lines on my 19".

I agree with Cardsfan that the summary would be better D.Pham.

Exactly. At the time, I was thinking "I didn't know Suprmallet was a teenage girl." Then I saw the reason for the abbreviations, and thought, "Oh, that's not right at all..."

I fully endorse my truncated summary for use as a signature.

Re: Signature question...how much is 5 lines?

OK, nevermind.

Edit: If the signature only shows up as two lines, than surely you can edit my quote to its original state, with correct spelling and such.

i'm viewing it on my 20" monitor, which isn't that large these days.

i wish i could, but
a) the software won't let me.
b) a mod/admin would delete it again.
