"Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...9789c6baf8ff63

NBC plans to bring back "Heroes" for another season, said entertainment president Angela Bromstad.

The action-drama's ratings decline has caused some media reports to speculate as to whether the show will return next fall. As part of Hollywood Reporter's annual Q&As with the five broadcast network chiefs, Bromstad was asked if "Heroes" could be considered "on the bubble" for a renewal.

"No," she said, and added that the network plans to order 18-20 episodes of the show for next season.

That's fewer hours than "Heroes" first or current third season (which each had orders of at least 23 episodes), with season two having been cut short due to the writers strike.

For all its headline-making audience erosion, "Heroes" is still tied with NBC's "The Office" as the network's top-rated series among adults 18-49 this season.

Also being factored: NBC's pilot project "Day One," about a group of survivors in the wake of a catastrophic global event. If the serialized "Day One" goes to series, having an established sci-fi drama like "Heroes" could help the new show in a few ways, including possibly airing as part of the same Monday night block.

"Day One' is a big event and we're looking at that to come into the 'Heroes' spot," Bromstad said. "It's right now being looked at as a 13-episode run -- something people could commit to and we could make a big splash with."

If "Day One" does launch in the "Heroes" time period, "One" would get the advantage of its strong sci-fi-established slot for a number of weeks. With a slightly shorter episode order, "Heroes" can then continue its usual pattern of airing with few breaks by virtue of debuting later in the season. A second potential home for "Day One" is on Sundays, she said, where quasi-futuristic "Kings" will premiere March 15.

Another point in "Heroes" favor is the show performs well internationally. Bromstad said she experienced the drama's global popularity first-hand in her previous NBC post, heading the network's international efforts based in London.

"Every single place you go has heard about 'Heroes' -- whether you're in China or Japan or Russia," she said. "And to me, that is global content."

The network has privately discussed setting a series end date for "Heroes," which would followed the creative model used with critical success by ABC's "Lost," Sci Fi's "Battlestar Galactica" and FX's "The Shield." But even if NBC ever made such a move, Bromstad said, they wouldn't want to make next season the conclusion.

"Heroes" fans aren't entirely in the clear yet: a renewal isn't a deal until it's a deal. If the show took a sudden dire ratings turn, the network still has time to reevaluate this strategy. But barring something dramatic happening, NBC is not deterred by the current ratings and will bring back "Heroes" for a fourth round.

That's good news. I really hope they can "fix" the show next season.

Early news of a renewal probably means they want to push people to watch the show now and not jump ship thinking this might be the end.

They can't fix the show. The 2 bad seasons can't be undone

Just have Angela wake up from a bad dream and reset the board to the way it was before Kirby Plaza.

They basically need to dump all of the main characters and do a full reboot. It's the only way they can get back to the "ordinary people with abilities" theme.

Lame. How many times has this show needed to fix itself?

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

No more re-boots. I think they need to dump half the cast that way storylines will be tighter.

I say dump:
Mohinder
Parkman
Daphne
Microwave Boy
Tracy
Nathan

Also interesting to note that this information comes in the week leading up to the first episode after the return of Bryan Fuller.

Let's the thread crapping and re-trashing of the show begin!

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

I think everyone not currently receiving a paycheck for acting on the show realizes they need to cut/rotate the cast, but they've shown a remarkable unwillingness to do that. Imagine how great this show would be if it were more like 24 in that department.

I mostly agree, but I'm liking microwave boy so far (I'm 1 or 2 episodes behind, the most recent episode to leave my DVR was the episode with him and Sylar in the diner).

Parkman and Nathan were great characters who have been damaged to almost no repair.

Daphne = Cute but useless
Mohinder = Definitely get rid of him
Tracy = Did they really need to bring back Ali Larter as a different character?

I'd love to see some of these characters killed off, but knowing Heroes, even if they do kill them, they'll be back in some unbelievable way or another.
Spoiler:
Why is Daphne still alive? It's really frustrating how the writers kill a character, only to bring them back a few episodes later.

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

I really think the damage is done. I tried to get through the last episode and couldn't finish it. The writing is just atrocious.

I vote to get rid of:
I say dump:
Mohinder
Parkman
Daphne
Microwave Boy
Tracy
Nathan
I agree.

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

Ive tried so hard to like this show but its getting harder and harder. I agree with most of you guys that it needs to lose many characters and tone it down a bit. I think they need to make it more realistic and establish more rules for the powers of characters.

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

I watched the first season, loved it, and havn't been able to watch anything past that yet. It sounds like the show fell into the toilet after season 1?

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

If this is like a comic book, they need to realize that Magneto is not in every fucking issue. People should come and go. RARELY. As in, guest-star.

Secondly, the title of this book should be MAGNETO, not The X-Men.

Sylar rocks ass.

Re: "Heroes" Renewed for a Fourth Season

They should pull the 24/Desperate Housewives, OTH method and set season 4 about 5 years into the future and start over with mostly a new cast.

Sylar was a good character the first year. He should have been a one season character. Now they are trying to keep him on and he has just become annoying just like most every other character.

Exactly. I thought that was they way they were going to go with him in season 2 but they fouled it all up. I wouldn't mind if he was in the backround pulling strings or plotting his next plan of attack but seeing him every week with no direction as just a time filler is painful.

Amen to that. Quick and easy way to erase bad seasons.

Mohinder = For sure. The damage is beyond repair
Nathan = same
Parkman = Getting there but I still have hope
Daphne = I like her. She's useless but could take over a greater part if Mohinder leaves
Microwave boy = Let's have him do something good or bad instead of just being annoying
Tracy = Kill her and don't bring back any more sisters / clones
Fish boy = If he has there for Claire to be less annoying keep him

If NBC cancelled Life on Mars, I think someone at ABC needs to check the sender on their emails a little closer...
