Well....I need it again, since my latest ex-wife (and hopefully last, too) kept this DVD, too. Not that I didn't have enough versions to choose from already, lol...

Was I right or what? I've noted in a couple of AoD-related threads that the Theatrical Cut that Universal's had out since like 1999 went OOP a month or two ago and since AB no longer has the license, I knew Universal was prepping an edition. Too bad it's kinda underwhelming -- I was really hoping Universal would create a more all-encompassing making-of featurette for this release.

When is Universal going to open that DVD plant that makes nothing but "Army of Darkness" DVD's?

I don't like the subtitle. If they had to have one it should at least be called the Primitive Screwhead Edition.
I've never purchased Army of Darkness before, so I'll get this.

No sale if the DVD doesn't include a remastered print of the "Director's Cut" like the MGM R3 DVD.
[I'm assuming it will be considering the commentary.]

Looks like everything from the Anchor Bay dvd is going to be here (including the commentary), but nothing new. I'll pass.
Shame that Anchor Bay didn't get to treat this as nicely as it did with the first two movies.

I feel your pain bro. My ex ran off with my Army of Darkness Boomstick Edition as well as quite a few others. I'll definitely be picking this up.

I have the long OOP Boomstick Edition. Unless the PQ is unbelievable on Blu-ray, I'll pass.

Re: Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition!? DVD / BD - May 19, 2009
Because the HD DVD just used the same old crappy master that was used for the DVDs. I almost bought the HD last week for $5, but passed because the quality was still crap. Crap (even in HD) is still crap.
EDIT: ^I guess this is really not true, I have been corrected below. Some reviews don't give the HD high marks, but the some do. I'm still not sure if I want to chance on the HD or wait for BD. Hmmm.
If this release is finally remastered (even without commentary, but would be very nice), I will finally get this. Haven't seen this in sooo long.
Thanks for the potentially good news OP!

It's not actually the Director's Cut. The listing on the back of 93m is incorrect. It times in at 96 minutes. And damn it looks fucking great considering it was taken from a film master instead of video.

I got a copy of the Boomstick Editition for $10 a few months back; I'll pass on this unless the transfer is a huge step up.

I prefer the theatrical version, so it's good that's what is being released. Though if it were possible to release a restored 'directors cut' as well, that'd be nice. I did enjoy the commentary on the DC, so a cut down version of that won't be as much fun nor make much sense. I hate when they take a commentary for one version of a film and try to use it for an alternate version.
I also think the subtitle should be Primitive Screwhead Edition. As I read the title and was thinking "That doesn't sound right", and then thanks to the previous poster. I remember the primitive screwhead line(it's been years since I watched the film).
Since I sold the L.E. years ago and haven't owned the film since then. I'll definitely pick this up.

The HD DVD looked great to me... but if the BD looks better, this will be any easy purchase.

I only have this on VHS, with the alternate ending as an extra, so I'll consider it. But I'm coming up with a plan for the trilogy: I'm going to wait until just before I die, and then buy the latest edition(s). Then I'll be able to pass on, resting easy that I'll never have to consider it again.

Why not use this as an excuse to release the final 'Book of the Dead' edition? Damn Blu-rays and their lack of collectible packaging.

What I would think is perfect would be...everything the director's cut had EXPCEPT The ending. I liked Ash being back at Smart
