Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique 20th Anniversary Remaster - 2/10/09

From InSound.com

The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique has been 24 bit digitally re-mastered for the 1st time, overseen personally by the band to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release. The original vinyl artwork has been faithfully restored in this 8 panel eco-friendly limited edition CD with fold-out poster. It also includes a free digital download for a track-by-track commentary by the band discussing each song over the music - Paul's Boutique "The Director's Cut" bonus audio.
Seems that it will be available on both vinyl and CD. Was hoping for a bonus disc of B-Sides, demos, or even an instrumentals disc would be great, but I'll be happy with a good remaster. Easily one of my favorite albums.

They've also been saying lately that they're working on a new album for release in the first half of the year. Check out http://mic-to-mic.blogspot.com for a blurb on that.

UPDATE: Release date changed to 2/10/09.

Paul's Boutique are the Beastie Boys best. Is this a deluxe edition?

That album is not--cannot--be 20 years old. I feel old.
I know I'm probably in a minority, but I like this and Licensed to Ill the best. Perhaps because those are the first two BB albums I got/listened to, or just the hiphop part of it was a little more accessible to someone who's not much into rap/hiphop (ie, me).
Eco-friendly: does this mean the disk comes in a cardboard envelope instead of a jewelcase? Sigh...with hard copy purchases decreasing in favor of digital downloads, I can't see that the world is endangered by using plastic jewelcases on the few disks that are sold instead of cardboard envelopes (this is not meant to be a threadcrap on this thread, just a comment on this component of the ecomovement).

I think I'll be picking this up on vinyl.

Here's a link to a site that lists all of the samples and references used on the album. http://paulsboutique.info/songs.php

So far the only extra that's been mentioned is a download code/link/whatever to a song-by-song commentary by the Beastie Boys. Hoping for more though.

On the site I linked to under album info it lists six b sides to the album. It would be nice if they were on there. I don't think I've ever heard them before.

Why the "eco-friendly" packaging? Are they expecting people to throw the CD in the garbage after listening to it?

Great album!

Great album!
It is for when the day that we die comes the package can just be absorbed by the environment.

Jimmy is a magnet. Hard to believe almost 20 years old.

I remember when this came out, and how all of the junior high kids who were into the whole "Fight for Your Right to Party" aspect of the group fucking hated Paul's Boutique.

That's awesome. I just hope it's not brick walled. If it isn't, this is a definite pick up for me.

Hey Ladies

I think this may be my favorite video by them. There are just so many nonsensical moments that make it so great. I also prefer the video mix of the song to the album version. A different beat kicks in around the 2:10 mark that sounds great. Supposedly, this song has never been performed live before.

Took me forever to find the funk break that they sampled for that song:

Hell, I memorized the entire album! One of the greatest rap LPs ever. Endlessly inventive. I'll pass on the double dip (might even be a triple) though, as there's apparently no new material included.

For you Car Thief fans, here are two demos that have very different lyrics from the final version:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aBG1AUYxu4Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aBG1AUYxu4Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Check the "more info" for the one above on the YouTube page if you're looking to hear b-sides and the rest of the Paul's demos - though I can't vouch for the quality.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TF19YaGsLFE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TF19YaGsLFE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
